Crestfallen father narrates horror of son falling into shaft at Jaypee Wish Town

The father, Yashpal Beniwal, would have no idea what the future holds for his family when he spent his hard-earned money to buy a flat at Jaypee Wish Town Klassic in Noida. As per his own admission, he bought the flat to give right kind of environment to his son.

But, all his dreams died when he found that his 8-year-old son, Aarav Beniwal, struggling for his life after falling into shaft while playing within the society.
He had dreamt of giving his son better amenities like playgrounds, parks and clubs. He would have no idea that the facilities that he had wished for will turn out to be a nightmare. The boy fell into shaft while playing football in the playground area.

The crestfallen father explained, “My son was not alone while playing. He was with her mother. But, the helpless mother could not do anything when the boy fell. Aarav fell on the lattice which broke suddenly taking the child along with it.”

Aarav is now fighting for his life at the Jaypee Hospital. He has been put on a ventilator and his condition is very critical. He suffered many fractures all throughout his body.

Aarav’s father said that he has only one son and he is an apple of his eyes. He said, “What should I say now, a father never wants to see his son in this kind of condition.”

“Four to five surgeries have been conducted on his body by the doctors. There were surgeries done on his head and hands. The surgery was started at 10.30 in the night and ended at 6 in the morning,” Beniwal added.

“When I came to know about the incident through the security guard, I rushed to the spot immediately. Through the water pipe, I went inside but I could not take out my son. He was rescued after fire department and police reached the spot,” he added.

Father also said that the rescue operation was conducted for more than one hour because the shaft’s breadth is not more than 3ft. He explained that the lack of space was the main hurdle in rescuing the child.

“This is the builder’s fault. My son is in critical condition because the builder used bad quality of material,” he added.

A doctor in Jaypee hospital said that the boy is still in critical condition. He said, “We are doing everything which in our capacity. We will keep the child under observation in next 24 hours. Then, we will speak more about his injuries. His head injuries are very serious.”

The residents pointed out the architectural mistake in the shaft. They said, “The shaft was closed till basement and there was no way to access the boy. The shafts at some of the towers in the society have a way to access it whereas it was not available in the shaft where the boy fell.”

The police have registered an FIR against Manoj Gaur, managing director of Jayprakash Associates, and two members of facility management group, Ajit Sharma and Ravindra Badhesra.

They have been booked under IPC Sections 288 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).

Is planting saplings enough?

Planting trees is only the beginning, but what about taking care of the saplings? The fact was highlighted by residents during the tree-planting drive organised today at Sector 18 neighbourhood park.
About 680 saplings were planted in the park under the jurisdiction of SDMC.

Residents also presented their demands before the area councillor, Nitika Sharma, who was present at the drive. They requested the councillor for a high-mast light, an open gym and multi-station swings and slide for the kids in the park.

Madhu Dagar, a resident from Crescent Apartments, said to City Spidey, “This park is under the corporation. We planted the saplings, but they have not been taken care of. We want it to be developed — RWAs in the area are keen for the same. The councillor has assured us of help.”

Residents also spoke about the damaged service lane in front of societies such as Belur Apartments, Crescent  Apartments, Excellence Apartments, Satyam Apartments and Majestic Apartments.

Secretary of Crescent Apartments, Kalpna Dhall, said, “The service lane is full of potholes. There’s no light either. There are vendors who cause great nuisance. I request the councillor to resolve these multiple issues."

Noida: Chunk of plaster falls at Prateek Wisteria; Hyundai Creta damaged

A Hyundai Creta was badly damaged on Sunday after a chunk of plaster fell from a balcony on the 8th floor of Prateek Wisteria in Sector-77 of Noida.

The residents said that the plaster may have fallen because of the heavy rains in last few days. “A few minutes after the storm started, a portion of the plaster from the 8th Floor of Tower-B fell on the car,” a resident said.
Monika Jain, the owner of the car, told City Spidey that she came to know about the incident through other residents.

“The car was parked in the parking area. I also made a complaint to the developer's officials,” she added.

The residents complained that the developer had used poor quality of construction materials. They also alleged that the builder and the maintenance team do not listen to their problems.

A resident, Amit Gupta, said that this is not the first incident of its kind in the society.

“There have been 4-5 incidents where the plaster fell on the green areas and parking area. Fortunately, there was no harm to the people. But, today, a vehicle got damaged. People are concerned about their well-being after the incident,” he added.

Gupta further said that the residents made several complaints to the Noida Authority and asked them to visit the society to check the construction material used by the developer.

He also said there have been many places where moisture can be easily spotted. He added that the moisture can easily collapse the walls.

The residents questioned Noida Authority’s decision to give completion and occupancy certificates without a physical inspection.

SK Mittal, vice president of Prateek Group told City Spidey that the car was wrongly parked.

He said, “At the time of monsoon, there are many buildings which have collapsed but here only a chunk of plaster has fallen. Hence, it’s not a big issue.”

“The maintenance team has done the repair work. We are doing repair works whereever we spot moisture on the wall. It is a continuous process, so it will take time,” Mittal added.

“If the car owner wants any help in claiming the insurance, we are ready to help her. We will not bear the repairing cost,” Mittal said.

It is to be noted that there have been several incidents of building collapses in recent times at Delhi-NCR. The incidents of building collapses were reported from Shahberi, Ghaziabad and Dwarka.

Ganga water supply to be suspended for 5 days in Noida, Ghaziabad

The Ganga water supply to Noida and Ghaziabad will be suspended from Tuesday morning as the Upper Ganga Canal in Haridwar was shut down due to excessive silt deposition after heavy rains in Uttarakhand. Ghaziabad News

SC Arora, a senior project engineer of Jal Department in Noida Authority, told City Spidey that the supply is expected to be suspended until Saturday.

“Heavy rain in Uttarakhand has resulted in silt deposition in the Upper Ganga Canal. The state’s irrigation department has shut the canal late on Sunday night but only informed us about it on Monday. It is expected to remain shut for five days.
“The supply can be resumed a day earlier as well if the silt deposition subsides,” said Arora.

Arora also said that the suspension of Ganga water supply will not create a crisis as they will continue supplying the boring water. He added that they also have stored Ganga water which will be supplied till Monday evening.

An official in Ghaziabad’s Jal board also confirmed the same thing. “Ganga water will not be supplied to Noida and Ghaziabad. The supply may partially resume on Friday if the silt deposition improves. The Uttarakhand irrigation department has decided to shut down supply for five days,” he said.

Peeyush Aggarwal, a resident of Sector-19, said that there is no water crisis as rain wells are working.

“But, the boring water that we are receiving is dirty and is yellow in colour. It also has bad smells. This water is not potable. People are buying water from the market for drinking and other purposes,” said Aggarwal.

The Ganga water is supplied from Haridwar to Dasna through the 185 km long Upper Ganga Canal.

The 19 km long pipeline takes the water to the treatment plant in Pratap Vihar in Ghaziabad. The Ganga water is processed at this plant. Nearly 360 million litres of Ganga water is supplied to Noida and Ghaziabad on daily basis. More than 20 lakh people receive Ganga water for drinking purposes.

AOA elections were conducted yesterday in Arihant Arden in Noida Extension, allowing 508 owners to exercise their voting rights. A total of 21 candidates contested in the elections.

Ram Kumar Sharma, the newly elected president of Arihant Arden, said, “My team and I will try to fix the various problems plaguing the society and also deal with the builder and Greater Noida Authority on several issues."

ATS Advantage residents brave harrowing powercuts lasting for 36 hours!

Imagine powercuts that last for 24 to 36 hours… and now imagine living through this recurrent nightmare since the last 45 days! Residents of ATS Advantage have now reached the end of their tether, and they've threatened to take to the streets against Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) if the problem persists.  Ghaziabad News
The latest one started at 7 am on Saturday and extended till 10 am on Sunday.

“This is the second instance of power going off for more than a day. Earlier, we faced 36-hour-long powercuts. We do have diesel generators (DG) sets to tide over the situation, but it’s also burning holes into our hard-earned money. Residents are being forced to pay three times the cost of usual bill due to high back-up power charges,” complained Abhishek Singh, AOA vice-president, ATS Advantage.

Besides the high charges, pollution is another important factor to consider, Singh pointed out. “We approximately consume 1,000 litres of diesel every hour. So, if we run a DG for 27 hours, we’re burning 27,000 litres, which is a huge environmental cost.”

Singh also said that due to widening of NH-24, the electricity lines of the society have been badly damaged. “So, we are on temporary arrangement from Kaala Patthar sub-station.”

ATS Advantage is one of the biggest societies in Ghaziabad with 2,000 flats and around 10,000 residents. Considering its size, the society was provided 33kV (Kilo Volts) power from Vaishali sub-station, whereas other societies of the locality are catered conjointly from Kala Patthar sub-station.

But things aren’t any better.

A senior citizen and a retiree lamented, “I can’t afford DG rates for such long periods. We have to pay Rs 15 per unit to avail back up power, whereas main power comes for Rs 4 per unit. So, I have had to switch off AC, TV and other high-power consuming appliances.”

Retiree or not, everybody is facing the brunt.

Working woman Sheetal Kapoor, who only gets weekends to complete pending chores of the week like washing and ironing, is facing difficult times too. Her gripe: “If power goes off during this time, I would’ve to stay delay my chores which consume more power. So, all the work remains pending — that’s tough given the fact that I don’t get rest of the week to finish off the work.”

Sanjay Jain, AOA President, concurs. “Every time, this happens during the weekends — causing even more mayhem. Whenever there’s a fault, they take more than a day to locate the problem and fix, as they have to hire a fault locator machine.”

Another resident, who didn’t want to be named, added there’s shortage of fault-finding machines in power cables — in fact, there’s just one machine in the whole of Ghaziabad.

However, executive engineer SK Pandey said that one machine is enough for the city area. “Cable fault finding machine is not a small device. A single unit can manage the whole city. Noida, too, has just one such machine,” he said.

While sub-divisional officer (SDO) Avinash Chawdhary, acknowledged the difficulties the residents are facing, he also held the society management responsible for these frequent faults. “Half the time, the faults happen at the society’s end. In the recent incident, the problem was with electrical grid of the society. True, electricity distribution cables get damaged during digging, but we try to address the problem immediately,”he said.

He continued, “The management never tries to reach me to discuss the problem. If I have to communicate that the problem is in the society’s cables, whom should I speak with?”

City Spidey tried to reach out to ATS maintenance chief, Anil Jai Singh, but he refused to comment on the matter.

8-year-old boy suffers a serious fall in Jaypee Wish Town, Noida

An eight-year-old boy was seriously injured when he fell down two floors through a ventilation shaft in Jaypee Wish Town Klassic, an upscale residential society in Sector 134 in Noida, yesterday evening. Noida News

Around 7 pm, Aarav was playing when he accidentally hit the ventilation screen built in the middle of the park. The cement screen gave away and as a result the boy fell down, 20 to 25 feet, to hit the floor of the building’s double basement. He sustained serious injuries in his head and limbs.

The firemen, aided by neighbours, managed to retrieve the boy after an hour. He was rushed to nearby Jaypee Hospital. Till the time of this report, the boy was still in a serious condition.

The child’s father, Yashpal Beniwal, and at least 70 neighbours filed a case against the builder and the Japyee management.

The police has registered an FIR against Manoj Gaur, managing director of Jayprakash Associates, and two members of facility management group, Ajit Sharma and Ravinra Badhesra.

The residents complained of poor quality material used in the construction of the cement screen that fenced a 6 square feet ventilation shaft. Residents complained that they were always worried about the screens which were brittle. “Even a gentle push would result in the screens crumbling. We had taken up the issue with the builders, but they never responded,” the residents alleged.

Sandeep Malakar, a resident, said, “The accident could have happened to anyone, and the builder is solely responsible for it.” The residents said besides this specific case they were, in general, suffering because of the poor quality of construction.

City Spidey approached Jaypee Associates and they were unavailable for comments.

Hansraj Bhadauria, Station Officer of Sector 135 (Expressway) police station, said investigation will be initiated and appropriate action will follow.

Dwarka a ticking bomb... a vector-borne outbreak waiting to go off

Dwarka is sitting on a ticking time bomb — there can be an outbreak of vector-borne disease at any point, with standing rain water everywhere. Dwarka News

RWA general secretary of Radhika Apartments, Sector 14, Anupam Yashovardhan, said, “The Corporation should take immediate measures to clear the stagnant water. If clearing out is not possible, such water should be spread with medicines.” local news

Recently, during an inspection by South Delhi Municipal Corporation officials, breeding could be detected in flower pots and water-filled broken utensils on premises, drains and water tanks. They found active breeding grounds in markets and Metro stations too.

Malaria inspector of Ward Dwarka B, Rohtas Singh, said, “It takes only a week for an egg to become an adult. So, a good portion of Dwarka is under the threat of an outbreak. This year, the situation seems particularly bad, with showers happening every now and then.”

According to officials, the DDA pockets — 50 in all – are more vulnerable to such outbreaks.

The stormwater drains inside the pockets are encroached upon; most of the drains are chocked, leading to permanent stagnation of water inside them. Moreover, in almost all the pockets, illegal construction is rampant and construction material is thrown everywhere, which become receptacles for rainwater.

Taking cognizance of the matter, former mayor and at present Leader of the House, SDMC, Kamaljeet Sehrawat — also a resident of Sector 6 — said, “Officials are spraying medicines both inside and outside societies. I will look into other areas as well. We are not taking any chances this time.”

Gurgaon: Day after suspension of nightclubs' NOC, HC stays order

After the suspension of police’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the nightclubs functioning in the mall mile area in Gurgaon, the Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the order for two clubs – Empire and Queen’s club.
The management of the two businesses had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The bench of Justice RN Raina stayed the order.

“The court has stayed the Gurugram police commissioner’s order in respect of these two bars and sought response by August 23 from the respondents,” said advocate Mohinder Nain, who is representing one of the petitioners. News

The police commissioner had earlier issued a directive to ensure law and order in the area. The residents had alleged flesh trade and use of drugs in the nightclubs operating in the area. However, the management of clubs had dismissed the allegations.

After the court’s order, the leaders and RWAs said that they are going to fight until they win the case. The residents had come out on the roads and celebrated with songs and dance after the suspension of NOC a day earlier.

It was told in the court that the rival clubs, who had close proximity with the politicians, the decision to suspend the NOC was influenced.

Senior advocate Chetan Mittal told the court that the NOCs were suspended with issuing show-cause notices. “It has caused serious loss of business to the petitioners for which the police department is responsible. They have paid Rs 10 lakh as a license fee to run the bar till 1 am and the said order is causing financial loss to them,” he said.

The association of bar owners had also demanded guidelines to operate clubs during the night. They said they have installed biometric machines at the entrances of the clubs to keep the record of the visitors.

Responding to the stay, Viajypal Yadav, president of the MG Road bar owners’ association, said, “We have invested crores of rupees. We will fight against the police order even if we have to approach the Supreme Court.”

However, the residents said that they are going to organise a meeting on Tuesday to decide about the future course of action including application against the stay in consultation with the lawyers.

PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh said, “If residents approach the Supreme Court, I am with them.”

Gurgaon: Residents rejoice as minister suspends police NOC to nightclubs

The residents residing near MG Road on Monday welcomed the decision of PWD Minister Rao Narbir Singh to suspend the police’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the nightclubs functioning in the area.

The decision was taken in consultation with the district administration and the police. The officials said that they are committed to ensuring proper law and order situation by having a crackdown against the alleged prostitution and solicitation in the area.

As the decision was announced, the residents came out on the roads and celebrated with songs and dance. Now, the licenses of nightclubs will be suspended by the excise and taxation department.

“I had promised the residents that I will return their Mall Mile glory and the first hurdle is over. The nightclubs cannot operate without the police NOC and the excise officials have assured to support our decision. We cannot play with the reputation of the city which was hitting the headlines in past few days,” Singh said. Gurgaon News

KK Rao, commissioner of police said, “I have directed my team to take prompt action against anyone indulging in any kind of illegal activities. We do not want residents to suffer and travel a long distance just to avoid next door mall for shopping as the place seems unsafe for women”.

The vice president of MGF Metropolitan Mall, Akash Oberoi, said that the many of the nightclubs on mall mile facilitated flesh trade and use of drugs. He said that the withdrawal of NOC will work in favour of improving the situation.

Oberoi added that families used to avoid the adjoining areas because of these illegal activities. “Now, families will start visiting the malls,” added Oberoi.

The residents had also organised a candlelight vigil to support the police’s crackdown against illegal activities happening in the stretch at the MG Road. The RWAs of eight of the societies had also met the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and informed him about the illegal activities.

PHOTO KATHA: Here a tree, there a tree... everywhere a tree

Come rains, and everybody panics out about a dengue outbreak. But the planned city of Dwarka, with tree-lined roads, has to contend with a rather unusual foe -- toppled greenery on roads, a grave threat to commuters.

Hundreds of trees have already toppled in the rains, but there are many that are about to fall, posing a life risk.

Experts say that the trees are toppling this easily because of less breathing space for the roots, heavy canopy and infection due to termites.

Commenting  on the issue, Deputy Director of Horticulture DDA, Zameel Ahmad, said , "The trees would be pruned to evenly distribute the weight of the canopy. We'll have to think of a different solution for trees that are about to fall. Trees that are already dead and have come loose would be cut down,  as we have asked the forest department to take care of it."

Noida: Residents of Amrapali Zodiac fear building collapse amid waterlogging

The heavy rains in the last two days have caused lots of waterlogging in the high rise societies. As a result, the residents are having a tough time negotiating the situation. They struggled with power cuts, truncated water supply etc.

Contrary to the popular belief that high rises have the best of facilities and infrastructure, many societies have witnessed severe waterlogging in the basements. At some places, there is waterlogging of 3-4ft. Noida News

A prominent residential society, Amrapali Zodiac in Sector-120, saw water accumulation of 2ft at the basement. At some places, the parked cars were half drowned. Apart from the basement, other parts of the society are also drowned.

Joginder Singh, a resident of Amrapali Zodiac told City Spidey that Basement-2 is still full of water. “There is no arrangement to clear the water and due to storage of water, the pillar has become weak and it will also affect the structure of the tower,” he added.

Singh also alleged that the builder covered the Noida Authority’s drain in order to construct the entry and exit points of the society's market. This illegal coverage is a big cause of flooding inside the society. The coverage affected the cleaning work of the drain.

“Yesterday there was no electricity in the society from 8 am to 6 pm. It affected the lift operations,” he added.

Singh added that he wrote a letter to the city magistrate on July 25 for the structure audit so that residents should know whether they are safe in this society or not.

“Anyone can make out the poor construction work in the basement. The reinforcement steels bars are visible in several areas whether it is a slab bottom or beam bottom. These exposed reinforced steel bars are prone to rusting in the presence air and water,” said Singh.

“Due to poor treatment of construction joints and poor waterproofing work by the builder, most of the basement area has witnessed heavy leakage especially in towers- C, D, E, F, J, H, S, T, U, V and W. They are also in the adjoining area of swimming pool,” Singh said in his letter to the city magistrate.

“Due to the continuous leakage in these areas, reinforcement steel bars are getting rusted and ultimately resulting into the deterioration of the capacity of the structure,” Singh said. City Magistrate wrote a letter to the Noida Authority to take action on the builder and resolve all the issues of the society.

UPDATED: Parapet of flat collapses at Eastern Gates Society in Vasundhara

Around 4 pm on Friday, the parapet of a flat collapses at Eastern Gates Society in Sector 4C, Vasundhara.

Could happen, right? But try and wrap your head around this - the builder is on the run, and the building has not even been issued the completion and occupancy certificates while 200 families are already residing in it.

The parapet collapsed in the balcony of the flat.  The debris of the parapet damaged the car of Prasun Mathur. It was parked in the open, right beneath the balcony.

The flat belongs to Ankit Gupta and it was rented out to Vineet Jha. Though no person was injured in the incident there could have been fatalities had the timing been wrong. An anxious Jha lashed out, "What if someone from my family was present in the balcony at the time when parapet collapsed?"

The incident made other residents very anxious. They said that they were fortunate that no one was present on the ground at that time. Generally, kids run and play in the area where the incident happened. Ghaziabad News

When City Spidey tried to gather the contact details of the builder, residents informed that he was on the run because of the dues he owed to Aawas Vikaas Pradhikaran. They were also engaged in a legal tangle, further informed residents.

A resident, Sunil Kumar, complained, "The quality of the material used in the construction was of poor quality. In the absence of registry, we were unable to form the RWA. Residents themselves collect the money and spend it on maintenance."

Police was called in after the incident. They reached the spot, but seemed clueless about filing the FIR. “The Builder is already on the run. There is no point in filing an FIR against him,” a police official said.

Later, Anangpal Rathi, sub-inspector in Indirapuram police station, asked both the victims to contact the GDA or the Nagar Nigam as the police could only look at cases related to law and order.

Speaking to City Spidey, the ADM said that the problem doesn’t come under his jurisdiction. However, on the request of the residents, he asked the GDA to send their engineers for the evaluation on Saturday.

“It seems there are some structural flaws, for which, only builder is liable,” ADM said.

Residents informed that they tried to contact GDA and Nagar Nigam. They said that both of them denied help stating that the matter is out of their jurisdiction.

Police was also reluctant to file an FIR. But, when residents demanded firmly, the police agreed to file an FIR against the builder.

A resident, Suresh Kumar, said that a meeting was held between residents and they unanimously decided to file FIR on Saturday. “We will prepare a draft of the FIR tonight and will file it tomorrow,” he said.

DM Gzb addresses the Eastern Gates parapet fall & city's waterlogging issues

Ritu Maheshwari, Ghaziabad DM, fielded questions regarding the Eastern Gates Society parapet fall and waterlogging in the city today.

On the issue of parapet fall at Eastern Gates Society where the responsible builder has been absconding, DM Ghaziabad said that Aawas Vikaas has been asked to inspect the building and a fresh FIR will be lodged against the builder. Ghaziabad News

As reported earlier by City Spidey, multiple cases are already registered against the builder and two non-bailable warrants (NBW) were issued but the builder fled before he could be taken into custody.

On being asked why the authority did not take cognizance in the matter after the builder escaped, she said that the responsible authority for this is the police department.

While SSP, Vaibhav Krishna, informed that the latest NBW issued in April is not valid anymore, the DM office has ordered him to file an FIR and issue a fresh NBW against the builder.

"We will take action in this regard soon," Krishna told Usmani, DM's Personal Assistant.

On the subject of waterlogging problem in Indirapuram, Maheshwari said that encroachment plays a key role in this problem. “The encroachment damages the drain, hence, the water is not receding fast,” DM said.

She also said that GDA has hired a consultant to come up with a plan to improve Indirapuram sewage system in order to mitigate the issue before next monsoon season.

On being asked whether GDA has any plans to provide respite to Indirapuram residents from the current waterlogging situation, she said that water pumps have been installed in the waterlogged areas. However, due to poor drainage system, the water that has been pumped out comes back to the area.

When asked whether the authority has an alternative solution, she said that the only solution currently is to pump the water out. “Please tell if you’ve any other alternative,” she remarked to this correspondent.

The photo below is of the SSP office situated in the posh area of Ghaziabad. One can't help but wonder if the offices of city administration can’t escape the problem of waterlogging, then what hope is left for the common man.

Meanwhile, many areas of Indirapuram continue to face waterlogging, making commute and going out for daily chores difficult for the residents.

Residents complained of stench coming from the accumulated water stating it's not just unbearable, but also unhygienic. They complained that the water is contaminated and can spread infection to their kids.

UPDATE: Grand Ajnara Heritage protest for power supply continues in the darkness

Hundreds of residents of Grand Ajnara Heritage, a residential society in Sector-74, Noida staged a protest against the builder and maintenance team of the society. Noida News

Residents alleged that there has been no power supply in the society for the past 48 hours and the builder has been supplying the power through backup, charging Rs 20 per unit.

Dhananjay Kumar, a resident of the society, told City Spidey that the internal power cable is not working due to the moisture that has seeped in due to the heavy rains that have hit the city. “For the past two days, the basement has been full of water due to the heavy rains in Delhi-NCR. Due to this moisture has seeped into the cables and the builder has been supplying the power through the diesel generator,” he added.

Residents said that when they spoke about the matter with the builder officials, they were told that the power is not being supplied by UPPCL due to the rain. But when the officials of UPPCL came for inspection they found the builder’s power cables were not working. “The residents staged a protest and the builder’s team called the police by providing them misleading information. The police left the place when they got to know what was actually happening. Residents also submitted a written complaint to the police to take action on the false call,” residents said.

Builder also provides the supply from backup to adjoining commercial area where shops run ACs, fans and lights due to which proper power is not being received in the residents’ homes. “Officials of the builder said that they will try to fix the electricity problem soon and they will re-start the supply of power by evening. But if the builder fails to fulfil his promise within the stipulated time, the residents will protest again,” Dhananjay said.

“In the basement, there are rats who have chewed through cars’ wires. The residents have been bearing costs of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 to repair their cars. Builder has not taken any action on this till date and the rats have damaged around 20 cars of the society already,” Dhanajay said.

When City Spidey tried to telephonically reach out to the builder’s officials for comments but the calls were not answered.

No solution yet to the open wires and fuse boxes across Dwarka

Electrical department does not seem serious enough to tackle the issue of open wires and fuse boxes across Dwarka. Hundreds of such open fuse boxes and naked wires can be seen all across Dwarka. In rainy season such boxes have become dangerous as there is a high risk of getting an electric shock from these. Dwarka News

Recently, in an accident, a person received a, thankfully, minor jolt because of one such fuse box. Ashok Kumar, a resident of Sector 11, was walking down the lane in Sector 10 and accidentally touched a box on the footpath and received the shock.

On the other hand, in the neighbourhood parks and play areas, naked wires and open main supply junctions can be seen. Geeta Verma, a resident of Sector 12, said, “Everybody knows that there are wires in the open which are dangerous in rain. But despite knowing this, the authorities always do temporary fixes and that too in a very casual way. When will they realise the seriousness of the issue?”

Recently in view of waterlogging and such naked wires in Sector 8, BSES cut the power of the whole sector. Recently, four boys got caught in an electric shock mishap in Sector 7 near Ramphal Chowk and one of the boys died as a result. In order to avoid the waterlogging in the area, he was trying to cross the road by holding an iron board through which live current was passing froma nearby electric pole.

Residents are demanding that the agencies ensure a safe and secure environment in the rain and cover all such naked wires and boxes properly. President of FORWAS (Federation of RWAs of Sector 9), KS Bhati, said, “It is the whole and sole responsibility of the civic bodies to perfect the electric systems and ensure the safety of the community. They must take this matter seriously and take necessary action on immediate basis.”

Engineer warns Eastern Gates residents to avoid usage of their balconies

On Friday, Vineet Jha, the victim of the parapet fall at Eastern Gates society in Vasundhara, personally called an engineer to look out for the flaws that could have led the parapet fall in his balcony. Indirapuram News

The engineer, after an hour of structural evaluation of the building’s flats and the terrace, warned all the residents to avoid the usage of their balconies. “People living in the society should evacuate their balconies immediately,” the engineer said.

The engineer, wishing to remain anonymous, spoke exclusively to City Spidey about the structural flaws he found in the building. While inspecting, he pointed out a few aspects which may have caused the accident. He also said that if they weren’t urgently addressed, they could lead to severe damage in the future. News

Firstly, he concurred with the residents that the material used in building construction is of inferior quality.

Secondly, he said that the placing of iron rods in the lintel roof is flawed. “The rods must’ve curved upwards at the point where the parapet starts and different set of rods should’ve been installed to cover the parapet area. In spite, the rods are not curving, but are prolonged till the parapet brim, making it unsteady,” he said.

Thirdly, he stated that the current rainwater drainage pipe which is 2.5 inches in diameter is not sufficient to pass the rainwater. For such a large building, pipes with 6 inches diameter should be used. He asked the residents to get new pipes installed.

Lastly, he added that due to poor maintenance, water that has accumulated on the roof passes through the cracks creating seepage further weakening the already weak walls.

As reported earlier, DM today ordered Aawas Vikaas Parishad to look into this incident.

Till the time of writing this story, nobody from the Aawas Vikaas Parishad has tried to contact the victim or the society.

KK Jain, RWA president of Dhawalgiri society in Sector-34, told City Spidey that the boundary wall had fallen in the adjacent plot, where the owner is building a guest house and had gotten some drilling work for the basement done recently. “No one was injured in this incident but the owner of the plot drilled the plot too much due to which the boundary wall collapsed,” he added. news

RK Mishra, Additional CEO of Noida Authority, said that for the last few days lots of incidents have been taking place in the area and one of the main reasons is drilling for basement. “Some action must be taken by the authority,” Mishra said.

UPDATED: 10-year-old girl from I'puram continues to struggle for life

The 10-year-old girl who fell from the 5th floor of a building at Orange County in Indirapuram on Saturday continues to be in critical condition. The clot in her brain has increased by 15-20 percent. However, she is now responding to pain stimulus. As things stand now,  surgery is not required to remove clot in her brain, confirm doctors. Indirapuram News

No significant injury to her abdominal organs was found except for a small clot behind kidney. Doctors have also indicated the possibility of an undetected internal source of bleeding in her body, as her hemoglobin level is continuously plummeting.

The unfortunate incident happened when the girl, Pari Gupta, was reportedly playing in the balcony of her house. Crime News

The girl was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. But, due her critical condition, she was then referred to Max Hospital where her CT scans were done.

Primary reports revealed that she has received at least five bone fractures in her body.

Both of her legs have also been fractured. A blood clot has also been detected in her head. While the surgery has been started, the second CT scan did not report any significant deterioration.

Police informed that no official complaint has been filed by parents.

When City Spidey contacted parents of the girl, they denied commenting on the incident.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has been a complete failure in managing sanitation in Dwarka. The horticulture waste management has been completely neglected by the corporation.

All the initiatives taken by the authorities were ineffective. The ground reality is that the whole city is covered with horticulture waste. Dwarka News

The footpaths are the victim of such garbage dumping. Due to rain these days, the condition has become more pathetic and the heap of such garbage is causing filth in the area.

The SDMC claims that they are doing good job on waste management. But, I wonder, how they will implement garbage segregation when its horticulture department never seems to be active.

For an example, a tree branch lying in our society’s back lane has been there for a long time and not removed till now.

Similarly, I can say that the people are trying to clear the footpaths on their own but authorities are not taking interest. For horticulture waste management, many promises were made and meetings were held on several occasions with no concrete result on the ground.

I always find a gap between the authority and the community and the implementation of law. Unless they become strict and work in streamlined manner, nothing effective will be done.

Rana also said that they talked about the senior citizens of the society. They asked police to make a data of senior citizens to keep proper care under the senior citizen safety and security policy of Delhi Police.

“We asked them that we have good number of senior citizens and police must focus on their safety and security. Police assured help to us. They will send some officials in couple of days with forms to make a record,” said Rana.

On the occasion, a resident of Sector-23, Indu Garg, who has been a nominated volunteer from Delhi Police (Police Mitra) and the one who coordinated the programme said, “We are approaching the RWAs and doing such programme. Police is also giving demonstrations about the app in schools as well. Teachers and girls are being made aware about the app. Recently, an awareness programme was organised at MRV School in Sector-13. Information about the app was shared by the police at the MRV School.

According to DCP, Dwarka, Anto Alphonse, the Himmat Plus App can be downloaded by the residents of the area living in the societies. Such programmes have been started by the police in Dwarka.

Dwarka residents call for cleaning of parks

With the onset of the monsoon water has been accumulating at different places, sparking fears of a dengue outbreak. Panic has already set in and residents want SDMC to step up its act. They are demanding routine checks of parks to control breeding early on.

In Dwarka, there are about 500 parks — those up to 3 acres are under the SDMC and others belong to the DDA. Dwarka News

Dustbins in the parks, bottles and glasses — all kinds of litter — can be potential places of water accumulation, and therefore, must be cleared out by the authorities.

President of Gangotri Apartments in Sector 12, Umesh Kala, said, “Mornings and evenings are the worse — it’s difficult to stay in the parks because of mosquitoes constantly biting. The corporation should take up fogging immediately.” Vice-president of New Millennium Apartments in Sector 23, MS Suri, said, “Last year, couple of dengue and chikungunia cases were reported from our society. Most people feel parks are the problem. There’s standing water everywhere — the civic bodies must look into it.”

SDMC mayor, Narender Chawla, said he would look into the matter promptly and initiate preventive measures.

An official of Noida Authority said that they did not receive any letter yet but if they receive it then they will take proper action.

Gaur Global Village residents fear a Shahberi repeat after the rains yesterday

Residents of Gaur Global Village in Crossings Republik fear a Shahberi-like incident, as the adjacent construction site has turned into a basin for runaway rainwater gushing down from the adjoining Dundahera village. The muddy rainwater that has collected at the construction site could greatly damage the basement and foundation of Gaur Global — and the village too. Ghaziabad News

The basement and the front gate area of Gaur Global were submerged in a feet deep water yesterday in the aftermath of heavy early-morning showers.

There’s also a single-storey building next to the construction site that faces risk of collapse. Its residents have been asked to evacuate by the administration.

Sanjay Jha, secretary of Gaur Global AOA, brought the matter to the notice of Ritu Maheshwari, Ghaziabad DM.

Jha blamed Crossings Infrastructure Pvt Ltd (CIPL), builder of Crossings Republik, for the poor drainage of the area.

The site was dug up almost two years back and construction work was stopped owing to outstanding payments by Crossings administration.

City Spidey reached out to the GDA and officer on special duty, VK Singh, confirmed that the issue was brought to the administration’s notice and an inspection team was sent to the site.

The team, headed by Ajeet Kumar, visited the site yesterday and asked the builder, Mahagun Montage, to pump out the accumulated water.

Kumar added, “Once the washing out of the water is done, we will provide Ready Mixed Concrete (RMC) to strengthen the retaining wall.”

When City Spidey tried to get in touch with Dheeraj Jain, partner at Mahagun Montage, he rudely hung up.

I’puram: Petrol pump sees unprecedented water accumulation; remains shut all day

A petrol pump in Indirapuram remained shut on Thursday due to collection of sewage water inside its premises. The pump is situated at the T-point curving towards Shakti Khand from the Mohan Nagar Link Road.
The waterlogging was 3-4 feet deep. The “In & Out” outlet, which is in the same campus of the petrol pump, was also affected as the water got accumulated inside it. The store was also shut.

On the other side of the road, there are high rise apartments whose residents also complained of waterlogging. They also complained about huge stench emanating from the sewage water accumulated on the road.

The workers said that they see this kind of scene every year. “Every year during the monsoon, we face this problem,” one of the workers said.

However, this is the first time that the water has stayed for the whole day, said petrol pump’s manager Satya Prakash. Prakash said, “The water recedes usually after the use of water pump machine. But, today, even after running water pumps for several hours, water level did not go down.”

Petrol pump’s owner Himanshu Bhardwaj was also surprised with the situation. “This is the first time that the petrol pump was full of water for the whole day. It is uncertain whether it’ll be operational tomorrow,” said Bhardwaj.

Bhardwaj alleged that three Sewage Treatment Plants, which are situated just a few meters away, was the reason behind unprecedented water accumulation.

“Those three STPs are running on full capacity. STP’s have two drains. One is located in front of the station and the other is across the road. When they run on full capacity, the sewage water from the drain overflows and gets collected in our campus,” added Bhardwaj.

Bhardwaj also said that as the level of petrol pump’s ground is lower than the road, it is prone to the waterlogging.

The workers informed City Spidey that this kind of situation happens around 5-6 times in a year. They also shared their worries of getting infected and ill as the collected water is contaminated.

While asking whether they have put up the issue in front of the authorities, the manager informed that complaints have been sent several times to GDA but the authority replied that the water coming to the plant can’t be stopped.

Bhardwaj said that the main issue is with the size of drains. “This is the lack of urban planning and negligence at the end of GDA. The drains are incompetent for the smooth passage of sewage water when the plants function on full capacity,” he said.

On asking how much loss the business has suffered with the suspended operation of the pump, Bhardwaj apprised that sale of 25,000 litres of oil was hit on Thursday.

He also said that apart from monetary loss, it’s the crisis which should be considered. “We cater to lakhs of people living in this area and it was disheartening to see them returning hopeless from the pump,” Bhardwaj said.

He also informed that Jal Nigam’s executive engineer visited the petrol pump on Thursday and Chief engineer will be visiting on Friday.

Noida: Residents of high rise societies face severe waterlogging after rains

After the heavy rains, the residents of high rises in Noida are facing the waterlogging problem in their societies. Some of the societies are also facing power cuts and truncated water supply. Lifts are also not working in some of the societies.
The residents said that the civic body and the developer have not learned any lesson from the past.

Last year, many societies and roads had turned into a swimming pool after the rains. The civic bodies in Noida and Greater Noida have failed to address the perennial waterlogging problem.

Joginder Singh, a resident of Amrapali Zodiac society in Sector-120, told City Spidey that there is no power supply since 8 am in the morning which has affected the lift operations.

“Lifts are not working. School students and office goers have not been able to attend schools and offices respectively. I was also unable to go to the office,” Singh said.

Singh added, “The Basement-2 has been completely inundated. Residents have not been able to use their cars. Now, the maintenance team is using the water pump to take the water out from there.”

Neeraj Singh, a resident of Amrapali Silicon in Sector-76, said, “Water entered into the balcony of an apartment on the 5th floor through the drainage pipe. The drainage pipe was installed for the waste water of flats. The drain was chocked due to the garbage and waste material.”

Sameer Bhardwaj, a resident of Supertech Eco Village in Noida Extension, said that the basement and the other areas of the society were full of water after the rain.

An official of Noida Authority said that there is no solution of this problem unless the drainage system improves. “We cleaned the all the small and big drains of the city to resolve the waterlogging problem,” official said.

The Noida Authority claimed before the monsoon that cleaning work of city’s main irrigation drain is 100 per cent complete. The authority had allocated Rs 4.5 crore budget for cleaning work of city’s biggest drain.

Indirapuram: 34-year-old man dies of electrocution at Shipra Sun City

The residents of Indirapuram woke up with waterlogged roads and shocking news of the death of a 34-year-old man Sarojkant Das who was electrocuted at Indirapuram's Shipra Sun City. Saroj is originally from the city of Dharbanga in Bihar.

Saroj reportedly returned home after dropping his 5-year-old daughter at the bus stop for school bus. Then, he came out again to get some flowers for her wife for the everyday worship at home. At the society park, he came in contact of a live wire and collapsed on the spot. Indirapuram News

Slippers of Saroj at the spot

Rakesh Rai, a resident of Shipra Sun City, and one of the witnesses said, “Four people who were walking nearby saw him getting electrocuted and ran to save him. But, they couldn’t as they had also felt the shock as well.”

Residents immediately called the police and took him to a nearby Shanti Gopal Hospital where doctors declared him dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Open wires around the trenches

Mukesh Singh, a neighbour of Saroj, said, “The cleanliness and maintenance of the trench in Shipra Sun City was pending for 3 years. Just a few days back, only trenches were cleaned and were lying open.

“Wiring of DG also passes near the trenches and there is a chance that the wire came out and got damaged during maintenance. Since the work was not checked, it proved fatal for Saroj as it was full of water and he probably was not able to see the wire,” said Singh.

Residents alleged that the incident could have been averted if the elected AOA worked timely and effectively.  As per the sources, the family of the victim is ready to file an FIR against the RWA members.

Assistant SP, Ravi Kumar said, “Dead body has been for sent for post-mortem. Nobody from family or society has filed any complaint. We will be able to take some action only after Post Mortem report is with us.”

Mukesh Singh further said, “RWA President is claiming in front of everyone that Saroj died of heart attack. He is trying his best to influence the team conducting the post-mortem to hide their negligence towards the maintenance of the society.”

The incident has once again highlighted the apathy of civic agencies in Ghaziabad's Indirapuram. Shipra Sun City witnessed severe waterlogging amid heavy rains as drains remained clogged. Phase II of the society is completely immersed in water.
