Violations of Covid guidelines reported in Delhi Metro

On Monday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation resumed its operations with new protocols after the second lockdown. The second wave of coronavirus had affected the services. It came as a big relief for the commuters as offices opened again.

However, the DMRC stated that the trains would be operating with 50 per cent capacity with passengers seated. They had not allowed people to stand up during the travel.

But it was observed that people were travelling while standing inside the metro coaches. Not only people were standing but also commuters were found seated at the adjacent seats violating the Covid norms. There was no checking inside the metro coaches to enforce strict implementation of the rules.

Anand Singh, a commuters who takes train from Barakhamba Road metro station, said, “There was a rush at the station in the evening. I had to wait in long queue before getting inside the station. Due to the rush, people were found standing inside the metro coaches.”

There was rush at Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, ITO, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secratariat metro stations during the peak hours. The situation was same at the Dwarka Mor station.

“To ensure proper adherence to guidelines, 15 stations were closed for some time on Monday. Till 8 pm on Monday, 84 commuters were penalised for violating the guidelines. People were also penalised for not wearing the masks properly. On Monday, about 4.5 lakh passengers travelled on different lines in Delhi metro,” said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director of DMRC.

Rail Roko: Delhi Metro shuts entry, exit gates of four stations

Due to security concerns, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has shut the entry and exit gates of four Metro stations near the Tikri border. Farmers have been protesting to repeal the new farm laws at this site since November last year.

The action was taken as farmers had announced a 'Rail Roko' protest against the farm laws. The corporation has closed the entry and exit gates of Tikri border, Pandit Shri Ram Sharma, Bahadurgarh and Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Metro stations.

The DMRC Twitter handle posted, “Security Update: Entry/exit for Tikri Border, Pandit Shree Ram Sharma, Bahadurgarh City, and Brig. Hoshiar Singh have been closed.”

As per the officials, these stations are in close proximity to the spots where farmers have been staying put to protest against the Centre's farm laws.
