UPDATED: Parapet of flat collapses at Eastern Gates Society in Vasundhara

Around 4 pm on Friday, the parapet of a flat collapses at Eastern Gates Society in Sector 4C, Vasundhara.

Could happen, right? But try and wrap your head around this - the builder is on the run, and the building has not even been issued the completion and occupancy certificates while 200 families are already residing in it.

The parapet collapsed in the balcony of the flat.  The debris of the parapet damaged the car of Prasun Mathur. It was parked in the open, right beneath the balcony.

The flat belongs to Ankit Gupta and it was rented out to Vineet Jha. Though no person was injured in the incident there could have been fatalities had the timing been wrong. An anxious Jha lashed out, "What if someone from my family was present in the balcony at the time when parapet collapsed?"

The incident made other residents very anxious. They said that they were fortunate that no one was present on the ground at that time. Generally, kids run and play in the area where the incident happened. Ghaziabad News

When City Spidey tried to gather the contact details of the builder, residents informed that he was on the run because of the dues he owed to Aawas Vikaas Pradhikaran. They were also engaged in a legal tangle, further informed residents.

A resident, Sunil Kumar, complained, "The quality of the material used in the construction was of poor quality. In the absence of registry, we were unable to form the RWA. Residents themselves collect the money and spend it on maintenance."

Police was called in after the incident. They reached the spot, but seemed clueless about filing the FIR. “The Builder is already on the run. There is no point in filing an FIR against him,” a police official said.

Later, Anangpal Rathi, sub-inspector in Indirapuram police station, asked both the victims to contact the GDA or the Nagar Nigam as the police could only look at cases related to law and order.

Speaking to City Spidey, the ADM said that the problem doesn’t come under his jurisdiction. However, on the request of the residents, he asked the GDA to send their engineers for the evaluation on Saturday.

“It seems there are some structural flaws, for which, only builder is liable,” ADM said.

Residents informed that they tried to contact GDA and Nagar Nigam. They said that both of them denied help stating that the matter is out of their jurisdiction.

Police was also reluctant to file an FIR. But, when residents demanded firmly, the police agreed to file an FIR against the builder.

A resident, Suresh Kumar, said that a meeting was held between residents and they unanimously decided to file FIR on Saturday. “We will prepare a draft of the FIR tonight and will file it tomorrow,” he said.
