The residents residing near MG Road on Monday welcomed the decision of PWD Minister Rao Narbir Singh to suspend the police’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the nightclubs functioning in the area.
The decision was taken in consultation with the district administration and the police. The officials said that they are committed to ensuring proper law and order situation by having a crackdown against the alleged prostitution and solicitation in the area.
As the decision was announced, the residents came out on the roads and celebrated with songs and dance. Now, the licenses of nightclubs will be suspended by the excise and taxation department.
“I had promised the residents that I will return their Mall Mile glory and the first hurdle is over. The nightclubs cannot operate without the police NOC and the excise officials have assured to support our decision. We cannot play with the reputation of the city which was hitting the headlines in past few days,” Singh said. Gurgaon News
KK Rao, commissioner of police said, “I have directed my team to take prompt action against anyone indulging in any kind of illegal activities. We do not want residents to suffer and travel a long distance just to avoid next door mall for shopping as the place seems unsafe for women”.
The vice president of MGF Metropolitan Mall, Akash Oberoi, said that the many of the nightclubs on mall mile facilitated flesh trade and use of drugs. He said that the withdrawal of NOC will work in favour of improving the situation.
Oberoi added that families used to avoid the adjoining areas because of these illegal activities. “Now, families will start visiting the malls,” added Oberoi.
The residents had also organised a candlelight vigil to support the police’s crackdown against illegal activities happening in the stretch at the MG Road. The RWAs of eight of the societies had also met the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and informed him about the illegal activities.
