Ggn: Trees felled to widen road, but no progress on work

The road that connects Old Delhi Road and IFFCO Chowk has always suffered terrible traffic snarls. A while back about 70 trees were felled to widen the road, but has that helped? Nope. The road lies as it was, with widening work on at a sluggish pace.

The road runs between sectors 17 and 18. Residents of societies along the road are not only appalled at the pace but also the felling of so many trees. gurgaon local news

“They were such beautiful trees, almost 40 years old — neem, banyan and paanch patti," said Dr Sudhir Sehdev, a resident of IFFCO Colony. "The authorities took just a week to cut all of them off. Now neither do we have the trees, nor a wide road."
“We were expecting the work to be completed by now," said DS Yadav, president of Sector 17B. "We had decided we would plant trees before the monsoons, so they grow quickly." Gate Management Sytem

Speaking about the situation, Yash Pal Yadav, Huda administrator, said, “I understand the residents' concern about the felling of trees. With such an exponential increase in traffic volume over the past few years, we were left with no alternative but to clear the area for road widening. We have imposed a fine on the contractor for delaying the widening work, and have ordered him to resume work in the next four days." Vistor Management Sytem

These are the nine private colonies the MCG will take over

Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will release the Deficiency Assessment Report (DAR) of Palam Vihar in the coming week. The report will be published on its website. This step is part of MCG’s takeover of nine private colonies for maintenance, an initiative by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The DAR will record the current status of sanitation, sewage, water supply, open spaces and common areas, and where work is needed. It will then be handed over to the builder to either complete the repair or do the remaining work within six months or transfer funds to MCG to complete it.

“A copy of the report will be sent to the developer," said V Umashankar, MCG commissioner. "The DARs for DLF localities will be published in the coming weeks.”
MCG will meet Ansals Buildwell, the Palam Vihar developer, to decide the course of action after the DAR is released.

“Residents keep complaining about the poor condition of roads and sanitation,” said Bhim Yadav, president of the Sector 22 RWA. “We are desperately waiting for MCG to take over.” gate management system

VMK Singh, general secretary of Suncity RWA, said they were tired of dealing with the builder to get work done. “We just hope the transfer is done soon, so we can finally have the basic amenities we are deprived of.”
The nine private colonies that will be taken over by MCG are DLF phases I, II and III; Sushant Lok Phase I; Palam Vihar; South City I and II; Ardee City and Suncity.

Metro View Apts, Dwarka: What can they do to be heard!

Residents of Metro View Apartments in Sector 13, Phase II, Dwarka, are living through a continuous health hazard. A choked drain — Trunk Drain 5 (TD 5) — just behind the society has become a source of toxic gases and a foul smell. And despite several complaints, authorities remain unmoved.
Those living at the back of the society are particularly affected. The drain has not been cleaned for a long time, and there’s stagnating water and sludge.

A resident of the society, Ramphal Singh, has written several times to Delhi Development Authority (DDA), urging it to clean the drain. But nothing has been done yet. Not stopping at that, he has also filed a complaint with the lieutenant governor (LG), the chief minister, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and other area representatives. Dwarka Society news
He said, “This drain has made our lives miserable — the place is always stinking and it's a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies. The sludge is so dense that there’s no flow of water. I have repeatedly asked the authorities to clean the drain, but they are busy passing the buck.”
He added, “Sometimes it’s even difficult to breathe. Our electronic gadgets are also getting affected from the gases emanating for the drain.” Dwarka Local News

“Nobody wants to take responsibility — the state government says measures should be taken by DDA; the DDA passes the onus to the irrigation department! Finally, I had to call the LG’s office twice this month to get my complaint heard. Let’s see what happens now,” he continued. Dwarka News
The garbage collectors, he adds, dump the waste in the drain, choking it. According to him, DDA is aware of the practice, but is doing nothing to stop it. gate management system
According to Vinod Rawat, RWA president of Metro View Apartments, “The flats at the back — from 489 to 608 — are the worst affected. The RWA has written to DDA and other agencies, but there has been no action. In various meetings with the authorities, the RWA proposed to cover the drain, as part of the drain behind National Law University in Sector 14 is already covered.”
DDA officials were not available for comment. rwa management software

How to plant a tree: an SDKS primer

Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi (SDKS) on Thursday organised a tree-planting drive as part of the annual tree-planting programme that was launched on June 5 (World Environment Day). About 10 children took part in the drive, learning about plants and planting them. A couple of parents also joined them.

General secretary of SDKS and a resident of Chitrakoot Apartments, PB Mishra, informed City Spidey that 75 trees — 20 Jatropha, 10 Champa, and 45 Cactuses) were planted in the green area of the footpath along Road No 226 in Sector 22. Dwarka Local News

"Thanks to the efforts of the residents, more than 90 per cent of the trees planted last year have survived until now," said Mishra. "We closely monitor the growth of these plants and even replace the dying plants." Dwarka Society News

SS Mann, vice-president of SDKS and a resident of Sadbhavna Apartments, Sector 22, arranged for the saplings and managed the entire drive.

Stagnating rainwater in front of Sec 44. But is Noida Authority bothered?

Rainwater stagnating outside two residential societies in Sector 44, Noida, has become a pressing concern for residents.

Residents of these societies said rainwater accumulated in the vacant plots opposite their societies has created unhygienic conditions. Noida Society News

The resident body of Kartik Kunj Apartments has notified Noida Authority senior officials of the situation through WhatsApp. Following this, the officials did pay a visit to the site, but nothing was done. Noida Local News

An office bearer, on condition of anonymity, said there was no way for the rainwater to flow out of the plots. He said the stagnating water was bound to become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and hence could lead to an outbreak of vector-borne diseases in the area.  Noida News

According to Rajesh Sharma, district malaria officer, the area in question falls under the jurisdiction of Noida Authority and hence residents should approach the Authority again to get the stagnated water cleaned.

Mayor exhorts Dwarka residents to fight against vector-borne diseases

Kamaljeet Sehrawat, the mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), encouraged Dwarka residents to do their bit in preventing vector-borne diseases at a workshop organised at the civic centre today. The workshop was an SDMC initiative to spread awareness about malaria, dengue and chikungunya.

The mayor said vector-borne diseases were caused due to the carelessness of residents. She said it was easy to stop the breeding of the mosquitoes by taking a few precautions such as proper cleaning and drying of utensils, coolers, flower pots and other articles, where it is possible for water to accumulate. Sehrawat advised residents to wear clothes with full sleeves to avoid mosquito bites, particularly for kids and schoolchildren.  Dwarka Society news

She said breeding of the Aedes mosquito took place in clean water. Sehrawat added that there was no cause for panic about dengue, as just a fraction of the cases required hospitalisation. She referred to the publicity campaign launched by the corporation to spread awareness among residents. Dwarka Local News

SDMC has been installing hoardings, banners and distributing handbills, apart from getting publicity on the radio and TV. Dwarka News

Dr RS Raheja, the project officer, Government of Delhi, expressed his views on vector-borne diseases and spoke about the causes, symptoms, and precautions.

Gurgaon, Sec 28, stayed without power for 12 hours!

Residents of Sector 28, Gurgaon, are having a hard time. How could it be otherwise with a 12-hour power cut from 11 pm yesterday?

Despite several complaints, the power crisis in the sector continues. The power came back on at 11 am today after a resident approached the complaint-cell office in Chakkarpur twice. gurgaon society news

“I went to the power office at 6.30 am and again at 9 am, after which power was back at 11 am. But it went off again at 1 pm. There was a transformer problem, apparently,” said Harsh Jaidka, a resident.
Residents alleged that the response of the complaint cell was utterly casual. gurgaon local news

“We kept calling the complaint cell number on 7290021914, but nobody cared to take the call,” said Manoj Kumar, a resident of the sector. gurgaon news
Some feel the old wires of the colony are also responsible for the power crisis. Though residents have, on several occasions, demanded their maintenance, no measures have been taken in that direction. rwa management software
“This colony came up in 2000. The wires are now old and require replacement. The wires have come loose and even a slight wind can cause a short circuit,” added Jaidka.
Adding to this, Kumar said, “There should be spacers between the wires so they don’t touch each other.”
Speaking to City Spidey, sub-division officer (SDO) Kuldeep Nehra said, “I will certainly look into the lapse. I will find out who was on duty at the cell when the residents called. Their calls will not go unanswered from now. About wires, I request residents to tell me where they find loose or damaged wires. We will certainly look into the matter."

Wow, an open gym in MV I Ext! But what now that the equipment has been damaged?

Residents of cooperative group housing societies in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension have started to raise questions about the wisdom of setting up an open gymnasium in a DDA park, when no one knows who's responsible for its maintenance.
The park is surrounded by more than 10 housing societies.
The open gym was inaugurated by East Delhi MP Mahesh Giri about two months back. As many as 14 machines were set up. Of them, a couple have already been damaged.
Residents are now uncertain about who is to repair the broken equipment — more importantly, who’s to bear the cost.
Sharad Sharma, who lives in one of the housing societies, took to Mahesh Giri’s Facebook page to seek answers on five fronts.
Here’s what he asked:
  • Did the MP consult the local residents or the RWA before installing the gym in the park?
  • What processes were followed in buying the equipment — how much money was spent and from where?
  • What’s the plan to guard and maintain these machines?
  • How much money has been allocated for the maintenance of these machines in the long term?
  • Why were the gym machines installed on un-cemented platforms, since they become unusable during monsoons when [the park] gets waterlogged?
Talking to City Spidey, Sharma said, “I have asked these questions, as the work was carried out using public money. Hence, an MP should certainly be able to tell how much money was allocated and what the plan is for future maintenance.”
Sharma said he would wait for 10 days for answers. After that, he added, he would raise the same questions through a Right to Information (RTI) application.

Eco Village residents and NEFOWA want to go the tripartite way

Homebuyers of Eco Village, a residential project in Greater Noida (West), and members of Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) on Thursday met Debashish Panda, CEO of Greater Noida Authority, to discuss the delayed possession of flats. They demanded a tripartite meeting involving buyers, the developer and officials of the Authority.

Homebuyers said they had already paid 80 per cent to 90 per cent of the cost of the flat to the builder and that they were also having to pay rent.  Noida Local News

Abhishek Kumar, president of NEFOWA, told City Spidey that the developer had somehow obtained an occupancy certificate and a completion certificate from the Authority without the mandatory inspection.  noida news

“The CEO has assured us that he will take strict action against the builder, and will instruct Authority officials to conduct an inspection and cancel the occupancy and completion certificates of all projects where basic amenities are not being provided to residents. The CEO also directed his officials to fix the date and time for the tripartite meeting regarding this project,” added Kumar. neighbourhood news

Has your project builder been served a notice by Noida Authority?

Living up to homebuyers' expectations, the Yogi Adityanath government has issued strict orders to erring housing project developers in Noida. Noida Authority has served notices to a bunch of private real estate companies involved in developing housing projects in the city.

The move is an outcome of a series of tripartite meetings involving Noida Authority officials, builders and homebuyers held following an order by the Uttar Pradesh government to solve buyer issues.  noida local news
While inspecting housing projects, several builders were found guilty of violating the sanctioned project-layout plans. Most violations observed were in terms of illegal construction of parking lots, non-satisfactory compliance with fire safety norms and water leakage in basements of housing societies.
An official source with the Authority told City Spidey that many developers had sold parking lots illegally to individual residents, which were originally marked as open areas in the sanctioned project outlay. He said, "There are developers who have obtained fire and environment clearances from respective departments without their systems being in order.” noida news
According to the Authority's department of planning and architecture, about 20 housing projects have been inspected till date. Further inspections are scheduled.
There are a few housing projects, such as Amrapali Zodiac, Amrapali Silicon City, Gardenia Granite, Skytech Matrott, Supertech Capetown and Antriksh Golf, that have been served notices.
The notices state that these developers should take corrective steps to ensure the project-layout guidelines are strictly followed. They have been told to act on the violations and submit a progress report to the Authority within a week.
However, there are some developers that are yet to submit their reports to the Authority, even after the expiry of their deadline. The officer pointed out that if there is any further delay on the part of the builders, the Authority will initiate action against them.

Wondering what that sweet scent in Garden Villas, Ggn, is?

Hidden amid verdant surroundings is an upscale gated residential colony, Garden Villas, in DLF Phase IV. This 12-year-old residential society has developed three beautiful gardens that stand in stark contrast to the dusty browns of tree-devoid Millennium City.

Spread across 15 acres, the society houses 50 families. gurgaon local news
When the RWA was formed in 2008, a few residents — with help from DLF — developed the gardens. Each garden, spread across 2 acres, was done up with a variety of seasonal flowers. Hence, the name Garden Villas.
The RWA has so far spent about Rs 50 lakh in the past seven years for the overall development and maintenance of the society. gurgaon news
Sandeep Chillar, who was part of the team that developed the gardens, said, “We excitedly went to nurseries to get a host of seasonal flowers and seeds of roses, raat ki rani, some medicinal plants and a few air-purifying saplings.”
The entire area, he adds with pride, is almost always wrapped in a sweet scent. In fact, the colony looks so beautiful that people from nearby areas often come to enjoy the gardens. The gardens also have various herbs and cacti at the corners.
“The nearest club is in DLF Phase IV. So we celebrate all the big days, such as Republic Day and Independence Day, here. We also hold our functions here,” said Madhu Sudan Choudhary, a resident.
“Residents meditate here as well. Even outsiders sometimes ask permission to use our gardens for yoga, which we often allow,” said A Sudhakar, an RWA adviser.

Dwarka: This man has levelled 20 potholes in his sector, all on his own

When Delhi Development Authority (DDA) turned a blind eye to the plight of commuters, a Dwarka resident decided to do something quite extraordinary — he started levelling the potholes on his own.
Yes!
Parminder Khetrapal, of New Kanchanjunga Apartments in Sector 23, has started to fill up the craters of sectors 22 and 23. He has filled up about 20 potholes in Sector 23, and has now moved on to Sector 22. dwarka local news

Here’s what he said: “Till when do you write and write and write! DDA is deaf and dumb. For a month, I tried to make them understand the ground reality. Finally, I have taken up their responsibility — I’ll do what I can. I have completed my work in Sector 23 and have just begun in Sector 22.” dwarka news
President of Dwarka Forum and a resident of Nav Sansad Vihar, Rejimon CK, shared, “Our general secretary filed an RTI on the matter. It was quite surprising when we were told in a statement that there were no potholes in the area. Just walk around and see how many potholes are there! To say there are no potholes is callous on their part. DDA should take up the matter urgently, and fill the craters as soon as possible.”
Some potholes — such as the one near Bharat Vandana Apartments in Sector 19 and near Maitri Apartments in Sector 10 — were so bad that even cars would get stuck in them. After repeated complaints and following up, one of them was filled up, but temporarily.
Nidhi Gupta, a resident of Vinayak Apartments, Sector 10, and a member of Dwarka Forum, said, “The pothole outside Maitri Apartments was a foot deep! Once I saw a Wagon R stuck in it. I placed a ladder across the crater, so cars wouldn't drive over it, and then reported the incident to our forum and also the civic bodies. It has been levelled for now, but there are hundreds of such craters across the sub-city. One such pothole can be seen near Baroda House Apartments in Sector 10.”
Joint secretary of Dwarka Forum, Sunil Sareen, shared with City Spidey a few pictures of a pothole just near the gate of Bharat Vandana Apartments. He complained, “The pothole has been here for over a week, but no DDA official has taken any initiative to level the gaping crater. It’s extremely dangerous.”

Noida: Elevated stretch on MP Road II now open to public

The elevated stretch on Master Plan Road II in Noida was thrown open to the public on Wednesday. This elevated road will allow commuters to cover a distance of 5 km in six to eight minutes.

Dr Mahesh Sharma, local MP and Union minister of state for tourism and culture; Satish Mahana, Uttar Pradesh minister of industrial development; Suresh Rana, state minister for industrial development; and MLA Pankaj Singh inaugurated the new road. noida lcoal news

While addressing a gathering at Cambridge School in Sector 27, Sharma said, “Earlier, with the change of regime in the state, the new governments were in the habit of putting partly completed projects in limbo. But we have opened the road to the public much before the project completion deadline. The road has been named Maharaja Agrasen Marg, as a big temple dedicated to the king stands beside the elevated road.”

In 2014, Noida Authority had started the development of a six-lane elevated road with a budget of Rs 435 crore. The project was to be completed within three years. It is now ready three months before the deadline.

Alok Sinha, chief secretary, industrial development and chairman of Noida Authority, said traffic monitoring would get easier, thanks to this stretch. He said, “I am sure this elevated road will help commuters reach their destination faster, without having to wait at traffic signals. We have more plans for effective monitoring of traffic in the city and that will be worked out later.”
There are nine traffic lights on the road above which the elevated stretch has come up.
Amit Mohan Prasad, CEO of Noida Authority, said, “Due to traffic congestion, vehicles move at a slow space and smoke emission from these vehicles contribute to increased pollution levels. The elevated road will also help reduce pollution in the city."

GDA to instal rainwater harvesting systems in city's parks

Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has planned to develop rainwater harvesting pits across the city's parks in a bid to replenish groundwater. According to water activists in the city, there has been a drastic depletion of groundwater levels over the past decade. Earlier, groundwater levels used to hover at around 50 feet to 80 feet. These days, it was only after a depth of 150 feet that groundwater is found.

The activists said groundwater extraction had never been a problem, but with an alarming drop of the water levels, the problem needs to be looked into. ghaziabad local news

According to officials, GDA has about 150 parks that are maintained by the Authority’s horticulture department. All of these parks will be equipped with rainwater harvesting systems in the coming days.

Officials of the horticulture department of GDA said in the initial phase, these systems are being set up in City Park, parks of the Madhuban Bapudham project, Green Park in Indirapuram, and in the parks of Sector 23, Raj Nagar.

Gurgaon: Watch it if you are in sectors 69 and 70 after sundown!

Residents of sectors 69 and 70, Gurgaon, aren’t feeling safe any longer — not with rising incidents of thefts in their area.

Even after repeated complaints, no measures have been taken towards improving security.
In these newly developed sectors, residents feel secure only within their condominiums, but once they step out fear takes control.
Women’s safety is a major cause of concern. After sundown, the situation deteriorates rapidly — even maids, who work in the condominiums, feel scared to walk back home.
“We don’t feel safe travelling alone after 5 pm. Sometimes, attempts have been made to stop our cars. Even stones have been thrown at vehicles,” recalls Manju Ranjan, a resident of Tulip Orange. gurgaon local news
Delivery boys, auto and taxi drivers, too, dread coming to the area for fear of being robbed.
“There have been several incidents where delivery boys and auto and taxi drivers have been targeted — their money snatched. After 4 pm, no one likes to venture into this area,” added Ajay Sharma, resident of Tulip Ivory.
Speaking to City Spidey, Vikas Ranjan, president of Tulip Orange, said, “We had approached PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh Yadav with our problems, demanding a local police booth. There was patrolling for a few days after we complained, but the situation is now back to square one.”
Sharma added, “There’s police presence near a wine shop on the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), but our sector needs regular vigilance and patrolling.”
When City Spidey contacted SHO Rajesh Kumar Yadav, he said, “I have two PCRs and one rider, with a huge area to cover. We'll try to increase the patrolling of the area. Meanwhile, residents, too, can suggest on how to improve the situation, I will try to incorporate the suggestions.”

What does borewell water supplied to GH7 look like? Take a guess

Residents of GH7, a residential society in Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad, have been complaining of scarce and dirty water supply for the past two weeks. Residents say they had been receiving smelly, murky water from a borewell.

In the absence of Ganga jal supply from the government, residents are at their wit’s end. As the society is yet to be handed over to the AOA, Crossings Infrastructure Private Limited (CIPL), the consortium of developers for the society, is in charge of maintenance and other amenities.

Speaking to City Spidey, Sumit Jha, general secretary of the society’s AOA, said the problem has caused panic among the residents of this 600-flat society. “Although the builder had promised 24-hour water supply, many flats did not receive sufficient water," said Jha. "At one point, the water was murky and smelt like industrial waste. We cannot rely on groundwater for long and are planning to meet the vice-chairman of Ghaziabad Development Authority [GDA] about the issue.” Ghaziabad Local News

Moreover, Jha said the AOA had no clue about whom to approach with the problems, as the society was developed by several builders who had joined hands under CIPL. “The top officials of CIPL keep changing, which adds to the confusion,” added Jha. ghaziabdad news

City Spidey took up the issue with the CIPL officials. In response to our queries, a representative of the consortium said work for resuming full supply had already been initiated and would be completed soon. “We had resumed partial supply from two spare borewells but that could not be sustained," said the representative. "The boring work for a new well has been completed. The rest of the installation could not be completed owing to Eid and a local holiday in Ghaziabad on Tuesday. We are trying our best to ensure that the society will get full supply from tomorrow evening.” rwa management software
On being asked about the dirty water and chances of the problem prevailing in the new borewell, the representative attributed the problem to a damaged filter in the boring pipelines. “

Should East Delhi residents just get used to the sight of rotting garbage on their roads? They way things are, they have to! The agitation of sanitation workers over non-payment of salaries has entered its fifth day.

The dhalaos [garbage receptacles], busy marketplaces and even residential colonies are filling up with garbage — unattended, left to rot for days on end!

Protests by East Delhi sanitation workers have become pretty much routine, and the past few years have witnessed many such strikes, mostly over non-payment of salaries. And every time, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has cited its financial crunch.   Delhi Local News

The conflict between the AAP-led Delhi government and BJP-controlled MCD has turned this financial fracas into a political war, but how long are the residents going to pay?

City Spidey was informed that RWAs had made several complaints to EDMC and their respective area councillors to have garbage removed from colony roads. Neighbourhood News

Giriraj Pandey, a resident of Vasundhara Enclave, said, “Residents are panicking, particularly with the rains starting. We are already facing highly humid conditions from last week, and this stinking garbage has made matters worse. Our lives will become hell if the rains come calling now.” Delhi News

Things have come to such a pass that even the space between two parked cars on the roadsides has filled up with garbage!
VS Vohra, president of East Delhi RWA joint forum, said, “I contacted EDMC Mayor Neema Bhagat and apprised her of the situation. Instead of providing a solution, she blamed the Delhi government. Now we are planning to meet Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. We are paying taxes and yet we are being made to suffer — why?”
