The citizens of Delhi woke up to a foggy morning, which happened due to severe pollution levels. There has been an uptick in the pollution levels due to calm surface winds.
As per System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the air quality reached 'severe' category with the Air Quality Index (AQI) touching 461 on Friday morning.
According SAFAR data, Delhi University, Pusa Road, Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, IIT-Delhi and Indira Gandhi International Airport (Terminal-3) recorded air quality in the severe category with an AQI of 420, 430, 424, 521, 416, 424 respectively.
An official from SAFAR said that the AQI is likely to deteriorate in the next three days due to the calm surface winds and low minimum temperatures.
The SAFAR forecast said that the AQI will be in the 'very poor' to 'severe' category on Friday. The AQI is expected to be in the 'severe' category on January 16 and 17.
AQI between the range of 51 and 100 is considered as 'satisfactory' or 'very good', 101-200 is 'moderate', 201-300 falls under the category of 'poor'. While 300-400 is considered as 'very poor', levels between 401-500 fall under the 'hazardous' category.
