Gurugram civic body under scanner for hiring 'consultant' to clear payment files

Amid rising dissatisfaction from the public regarding the resolution of civic issues, a piece of information regarding the work approach of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has come to light.

According to an official working with the civic body, a total of 28 files pertaining to the payment details of contractors, are awaiting clearance. Besides, the civic agency has hired an outsourced consultant named Amreek Singh to inspect the development work in order to release the payment.

Talking to City Spidey on this issue, the official on the condition of anonymity claimed, “Political pressure is the reason behind the non-clearance of these files. Moreover, I am unable to understand why the corporation has to hire a retired consultant when it already has its own team of well-known and highly-educated officials.”

“These files, pertaining to the construction work done in Zone 1, are pending since 5-6 months. It is really bizarre to realise that despite having a chief engineer and fully functional working committee, the civic agency is unable to clear these files,” the official stated.

Chief engineer ND Vashisht, on the other hand, has refuted such claims made by the official.

Talking to City Spidey, he said, “The files are being checked by other executive engineers and Amreek Singh, the hired consultant. Most of them have already been cleared by the chief administrative officer.”

However, he chose to stay silent when asked about the need to hire a consultant instead of getting it cleared by the officials of the MCG.

Be it water, power or roads, the residents are unhappy with the work being done by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram across the city.
