A senior citizen had a horrendous experience after a lift of his society carrying him, his wife and their 18-month-old grandchild fell straight to the basement. The woman got injured in the mishap whereas the fall broke the lamps of the lift. The incident occurred Tuesday night around 9 pm at the 'Nectar' tower of Ajnara-X, a residential condominium in Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad.
The victim's family stays on the 22nd floor of 'Glory' tower of the society.
“We were returning from a party organised in a 19th floor flat of the Nectar tower. Before the fall, the lift halted on the second floor and one lady stepped out of it. We had to get down on the ground floor but the lift became uncontrollable and hit the bottom of the basement," said 62-year-old victim PK Jain.
"I rang the alarm bell continuously for over 15 minutes, only then some security guards came and rescued us," Jain added.
He complained that the rescue system of the lift was partially functional. When Jain informed about this to the maintenance department, he was told that electronic cart of the lift failed which led to its fall.
Meanwhile, City Spidey tried to contact the manager of the maintenance department but repeated calls and messages went unattended.
It is important to note that the Apartment Owners' Association (AOA) of the society is dysfunctional for the past four years and the maintenance of the society, at present, is being looked after by the builder.
