Noida ranks 150th in Swachh Survekshan 2019

Much to the disappointment of authorities and residents, Noida scored a low rank of 150 in the Swachh Survekshan 2019 organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The city scored 2594.64 out of 5,000 marks.

The Swachh Survekshan ranking system consists of four segments – Service Level Progress, Certification, Direct Observation and Citizens Feedback (each having 1,250 marks).

Noida scored 1,036 and 966 marks in Direct Observation and Citizens Feedback section, respectively. However, the city’s low score can be attributed to its dismal performance in the other two sections – scoring 100 and 492 in Certification and Service Level Progress, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Noida Authority officials claimed that they had taken several significant efforts over the past year to make Noida a “Garbage Free City” but lost 1,000 points as they couldn’t get certification done on time. Noida News

Noida had introduced door-to-door garbage collection and also set up remediation plant for which they had not yet received certificates. Noida Authority, being an industrial authority, is a new entrant in the Urban Local Bodies Survey. The city had participated last year also in the survey and was ranked 324.

The residents claimed that city’s dismal performance is because of the poor work done by the authority workers. “This is a failure of Noida Authority, who always claimed that they are doing a lot of things to improve the city’s rankings in Swachh Survekshan. The main reason behind this poor performance is the corruption among the officials and their lack of willingness to work," Shivam Mishra, a resident, said.
