Dwarka: SDMC to develop Sectors 22 and 23 as a model for waste segregation

South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s leader of the house and area councillor Kamaljeet Sehrawat assured the residents of Dwarka today that Sectors 22 and 23 will be developed as a “model for waste segregation” for the other areas of the National Capital to emulate.

The announcement was made at an event organised by the Association of Neighbourhood Ladies Get-Together (ANHLGT) at Sector 23 Community Hall. Apart from hundreds of RWA members and residents, the event was also attended by Deputy Commissioner of SDMC, Najafgarh Zone, Vishwendra Singh and SDMC staff. Delhi News

Sehrawat said that the two sectors will see a big change over the coming weeks as far as waste segregation and composting are concerned.

Talking to City Spidey, the councillor explained that after three days, proper waste management method would be followed in these two sectors. “Wet and dry wastes would be collected separately. Wet waste would be lifted on a daily basis and dumped in composting pits made in nearby parks. We have already constructed 55 composting pits in the two sectors,” she said.

The residents complained that they have already started segregating the waste at their end but SDMC vehicles mix it while collecting. Sehrawat said that it will no longer happen.

“We first want to make this programme a success in Sectors 22 and 23 before moving to the entire sub city. Anyone who wants to know more on the subject can contact me on 9873091233,” she added.

The event was organised to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti with a theme of ‘Swachh, Swasth, Surakshit Paryavaran’. President of ANHLGT Cicily Kodyan said, “We wanted to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti this time by giving a message on the importance of using proper methods for waste management. RWAs and management of the societies were greatly benefitted today. Our aim is to make Dwarka free from garbage and for that we are making all the efforts.”
