A day after Dussehra, the air pollution levels in Noida and Ghaziabad crossed the 300-mark. However, the district administration of Gautam Budh Nagar is still waiting for response on its proposal sent to the MoEF which sought sanction of Rs 433.5 crore for the measures taken to check air pollution in the city. The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) officials said that with the lack of proper infrastructure, the GB Nagar administration has not been able to enforce anti air pollution measures on the ground.
The installation of three ambient air quality monitoring machines at the district magistrate’s bungalow in Sector 27, another at 70x sectors and at Noida Extension is also still pending.
Apart from this, the district administration had also suggested the state government to set up ambient air quality monitoring machines at five strategic locations including Dadri, Jewar airport and Kasna. The officials confirmed that three of these machines are at the final stages of assembly.
However, the officials did not confirm whether these machines will be operational before Diwali or not. Diwali is only two weeks away.
Every year after Diwali, air pollution in Delhi-NCR exacerbates due to use of fire crackers. People face breathing problems and respiratory ailments at that time.
The district administrations of Noida and Ghaziabad have also asked the builders to cover their construction sites properly and mandated sprinkling of water at all the sites.
Recently, the Noida Authority had used around 70-80 water tankers to curb dust pollution in the city.
