Man, woman jump to death from 14th floor of River Heights in Rajnagar Extn

Two alleged suicides were reported today on the premises of River Heights society in Rajnagar Extension. A man and a woman jumped off the 14th floor of tower 18 of Laurel Next Apartment (which falls in the perimeter of River heights society) at around 3 pm, said the police.

A security guard, Devendra Singh, was also severely injured while attempting to help the woman.

Both the man and the woman died on the spot while the security guard is admitted in Narendra Mohan Hospital at Mohan Nagar. His condition is critical.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Sihani Gate Police Station, Sanjay Kumar Pandey, said that they were informed about the incident at around 3:30 pm.

According to an eyewitness, “Initially the woman jumped and within seconds the man followed. Seeing the woman lying on the floor in a pool of blood, the guard ran to help her but just then the man jumped and crashed on him.”

Shankar Singh, another guard on duty, said that he heard two loud thuds within a span of 30 seconds and immediately ran towards the spot. “I saw all three lying on the ground with blood everywhere.”

Police said that both the deceased are outsiders and not the residents of the society.

The man has been identified as Vishal Sharma (27) alias Vicky, a resident of Noor Nagar, Sihani, a locality next to Rajnagar Extension. Vicky hails from Khekada city of Bhagpat district in western Uttar Pradesh. The girl has been identified as Jyoti Thakur (21), a resident of Bhopura, Sahibabad.

Pandey said that judging by the prima facie evidence, it looks like the two were in a relationship.

Meanwhile, the guard Shankar Singh said that he has been working in the society for the past three years and has never seen the duo enter or exit the tower.

The security of the tower is also in shambles. When City Spidey reached the floor from where the duo had allegedly jumped, many flats were lying vacant, unlocked with gates wide open.

The maintenance staff was also absent from their office in the tower. Residents said that they fled after the incident happened.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem by the police.
