National Independent Schools Alliance (NISA) has called upon private schools across India to abort Teachers’ Day celebrations, citing the reason of discrimination against them. The recent case of GD Goenka Public School in Rajnagar Extension has been cited as a case in point.
Kulbhushan Sharma, NISA president, said, “The administration has shown growing discrimination against private schools. GD Goenka’s case is a classic example. I don’t believe that the children were kept confined. They were seated in the principal’s office, aided by a school teacher. It’s not wrong... if you won’t pay fees for two years, any school would do that.”
The school has been in a legal wrangle after an FIR was lodged against the principal and admin in-charge over the confinement of its two girl students for allegedly extracting illegal charges from their parent.
Both the principal and the admin in-charge have been absconding since then.
Teachers at GD Goenka in Rajnagar Extension, to show solidarity with the principal and admin In-charge, will wear black arm bands tomorrow.
Sharma informed City Spidey that around 16,000 member schools will respond to the call.
“Our support also goes out to schools that are not members, but face harassment by parents and administration,” he added.
City Spidey spoke to few prominent private schools in the trans-Hindon area to know their stand on the issue, and found that most schools would be celebrating the day as usual.
“We will celebrate the day like we do every year,” said Manvinder, vice-president (administration) of Presidium Indirapuram.
Shivani Jain, president of All School’s Parents Association, denounced NISA’s call.
“This will malign the bond students and teachers share. Also, it will disrespect Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan whom we pay tribute to on Teacher’s Day,” she retaliated.
