Sushant Lok I residents protest against construction of milk booth

Protesting against the construction of a milk booth in Block C park in Sushant Lok I — which, claim residents, is part of the green belt in the original layout of the colony passed in 1985 — residents signed a letter that they plan to submit to the district town planning (DTP) department and the district administration.
Residents first spotted some construction activity a week ago and got it stopped, but the workers returned on Sunday. Construction workers said they were constructing a Vita booth, on the instructions of some resident of the same colony.

“No resident has the authority to do any construction in any green belt. We told construction workers to stay away. Construction workers told us that they had been directed to erect a milk booth. We will lodge a police complaint,” said Satish Yadav, sarpanch of Kanhai.

He added, "In fact, I know that the shop is being built by BJP leader Sarvpriye Tyagi and RSS leader Aman Sharma. They are misusing the powers and threatening us."

A senior executive of Ansal API, the builder, denied commenting on the issue and said he has sought a report on the matter.

Ashutosh Shelat, petitioner, and a resident of E Block, said, “We spotted construction in the green belt, 30 metres from our house and along the natural drain. We questioned the construction workers, but did not get much information about who hired them. We tried to gather information about status of the green belt from other residents, but failed. Finally, we filed a case in the local court, which did not grant stay on construction, but agreed to hear the matter on September 7. In the original layout of the colony passed in 1985, the site is shown as green belt.”
