After the directions issued by the Urban Local Bodies (ULB), the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has decided to provide major relief to taxpayers by giving one-time interest waiver to the people who have not cleared their property tax dues between 2010-2016. However, people can avail this offer until May 31. gurgaon news
“This a golden opportunity for citizens to clear their pending dues, without paying any interest on the lump sum and avail the one-time interest waiver. It has been introduced to encourage payment, and we expect a large number of residents to come forward and in return increase our collection in the process,” Yashpal Yadav, MCG Commissioner said.
However, there were some people who were miffed with the new initiative as they have been given very little time to clear the dues.
“The tax waiver is applicable for a mere three days and unnecessarily creates a hassle among taxpayers owing to short notice. Many residents may remain uninformed about the development and also inadvertently miss out on the offer,” Mayank Jaiman, a resident of sector 47 said.
Earlier on May 24, the MCG had decided to reopen the online payment of property tax. As well, they offered a 10 per cent rebate scheme on property tax which is due in the period of 2010-2016. The officials said that the 10 per cent rebate scheme is only available to the people who will clear their dues through cashless transactions.
The MCG officials further added that the taxpayers, who will fail to clear the dues by May 31, will be charged 1.5 per cent interest on their total dues every month.
Taxpayers can clear their dues by visiting the website www.mcg.gov.in or citizen facilitation centres at Sector-34 and Civil Lines office.
The MCG’s tax collection was at an all-time high at Rs 472.13 crore last year.
