Useless safety valves, rusty ropes and zero maintenance. As if that wasn't bad enough, stories of trapped panic-stricken residents have become a daily news. The lifts at Amrapali Platinum, a residential society in Sector 119, Noida, are just not working and residents are fuming. The builder has passed on the responsibility to a private operator who just isn't doing its job - residents allege the lifts have not been serviced for two years now.
Alarmed, residents roped in a private agency to do an audit on the lifts and the report revealed a shocking, but predictable, truth: They are virtual death traps. “30 per cent of the rescue devices in most lifts are non functional. Because of this people are trapped in the elevators every second day,” said resident Hardeep Singh.
Residents also allege that the company entrusted with lift maintenance removed the original controller parts of the lift only to replace them with local ones. "The ropes that hold the lifts have become useless and it might snap anytime. Fearing a fall, not too many residents use it at one time," Singh said. Apartment management software
Enough is enough, and residents will soon approach the district administration to sort the matter out once and for all.
Meanwhile, City Spidey pointed out the matter to Mahendra Kumar, City Magistrate, Noida. "If the audit report has declared the lifts dangerous, then I will issue a notice to the developer and take action. With lives at stake, I will take this matter up promptly,” Kumar said.
