For residents of Sector 138A, Noida, stench coming from a huge garbage dump has made it unbearable to live there. But hope has come their way in the form of National Green Tribunal (NGT), which has forced Noida Authority to submit a report on the garbage dump after residents filed a formal petition.
“We cannot step out of our houses in the evening because of the stench from the garbage. We cannot even open our windows and doors,” said Saurav Gupta, a resident of Victoria Emperor, a residential complex in the vicinity.
“It even gets difficult to breathe,” he added, echoing the sentiments of hundreds in the colony.
Thousands of people living in the high-rise apartments in sectors 137 and 138A have been complaining about the dumpyard to Noida Authority in vain. Residents of societies such as Exotica Fresco, Paramount Floraville, Gulshan Vivante and Paras Tierea had demanded the shifting of the garbage dump out of the city.
The residents had also moved NGT, which had asked the Authority to furnish details of the dumpyard located in Sector 138A, along the Noida Expressway. It said it must submit details to the tribunal at the next hearing, scheduled for later this month. Apartment management software
Which is why on Sunday, Noida Authority CEO Alok Tandon came to visit the dumpyard for the first time. He was accompanied by a team of officials.
RS Yadav, project engineer, Noida Authority, told City Spidey that it was a routine visit. “The CEO wanted to see the location of the garbage dump,” he said.
Yadav said Noida had located a 110-acre site at Astoli in Greater Noida, where solid waste would be dumped. A waste treatment plant would also be located there, which would reduce the onsite problem, he said.
