Shimla’s loss is certainly Gurgaon’s gain, what with the city hosting the 14th National Ice Skating Championships. Sunday was the opening day of the two-day event, which began at Iskate Ambience Mall in the city.
Owing to poor snowfall in Shimla, the event was to be shifted to Gurgaon, to be held in an artificial skating rink. Gurgaon News
Over 100 participants, half of them from the four southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, are competing in different categories – in figure skating and aerobatic manoeuvres. There are five levels of categories for different age groups, and boys and girls will compete separately.
The competition has more than heated up because this championship will decide the places in the Indian team that will take part in the Winter Olympics to be held at Pyeongchang in South Korea.
