Gurgaon: Leaking pipeline in Sector 54 causes health hazards

The residents of Sector 54 have been irked with a leaking pipeline on the roundabout of Golf Course Road that has now formed a pond. The leakage has been happening for the last four months. Since the authorities have shown no interest in mending it, the residents have now highlighted the situation on social media in a bid to arrest the attention of the authorities.

The pond has been a breeding ground for mosquitoes. This year dengue cases in Gurgaon have touched 57 while malaria cases have spiralled to an alarming 273.
When pictures of the water pool (formed by this leaking pipe) sprung up on social media and people started tweeting about it the authorities could not turn a blind eye anymore. The spot was immediately visited by a junior engineer from the MCG (Municipal Corporation Gurgaon).

“We have been constantly highlighting the issue but no action was taken. However, one post on face book has triggered the authorities to rush to the spot” said Subhash Sharma, a resident of Alankar Apartments.
Since a huge number of commuters pass through the stretch on which this puddle has been created the repercussions in terms of health and hygiene are obvious.

The junior engineer from MCG has checked the pipeline and identified the leakage. The HUDA officials have been informed that this is a HUDA pipeline.
“We have received the complaint and will treat this on priority,” said a HUDA official, when contacted by City Spidey.
