The Direct Generator (DG) at Palm Olympia, a residential society in
Noida Extension has been working continuously. This is despite the fact
that the society has a connection from NPCL (Noida Power Company
Limited) and NPCL officials have confirmed to the residents that there
is no fault in either the transmission or wires.
So why a DG? Residents allege that the developer has been using the
DG to overcharge them and hence they have conducted a massive protest
against him outside the maintenance office of the society.
Residents have informed a City Spidey reporter today afternoon that they have been living on electricity transmitted from the DG for nearly 36 hours.
SP Tyagi, a resident of the society categorically told City Spidey
that the developer is merely earning money by putting the DG on.
Incidentally, he is charging Rs 20 for every unit of the electricity
that is being transmitted through the direct generator.
“Whenever we talk to the developer’s representatives on this issue
they simply say that the equipment, which is used for taking the
electricity supply from the power company is not working and that hence
the builder is supplying electricity through the DG,” Tyagi added.
Residents also allege that the maintenance of the society is very
poor. The builder had taken the maintenance charge for a year in
advance. “Despite this the lifts are not working properly and often
people are stuck inside them,” rues SB Sharma, another resident.
“In this society, there are 1600 flats with 300 families. However the
basic amenities are deplorable. The quality of water is not good and
water pressure too is low,” Tyagi shared.
Ironically, when City Spidey tried contacting Sachin Garg,
one of the directors of the society for a comment on the allegations, he
chose to be unavailable.
