Traffic movement from Manesar to New Delhi was disrupted owing to repair work being carried out by at National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at Rajeev Chowk today. The work had blocked two lanes of the service road, causing a two-hour-long jam during peak hours.
NHAI officials said owing to three underpasses being constructed at the junction, construction work will continue to disrupt traffic movement at the junction over the next few weeks. One of the underpasses, at Bakhtawar Singh Road in front of Tau Devi Lal Stadium, is expected to open on August 15.
They said the stretch on which work was being carried out had developed potholes owing to the recent showers. This morning, the condition deteriorated to such an extent that the repair work had to be carried out immediately. Only one lane was operational between 8 am and 10 am this morning, confirmed a police official. "The work was not planned and we acted on the problem only after receiving information about the jam from commuters," said Simardeep Singh, deputy commissioner of police (traffic). "We only came to know of the problem after traffic movement disrupted. We deployed a team to barricade the stretch on which repair work was being carried out and restore traffic flow." Gurgaon News
Following that, Gurgaon police also sent out alerts through social media to inform commuters about the disruption.
