If you are a morning jogger in Dwarka, you could pass by a group of people who are zealously planting tree saplings. These people are either volunteers of Sukaram, a social organisation of the sub city or people from the neighbouring residential societies. Dwarka Society News
Sukaram in association with Seva Bharti has pledged to plant about 10, 000 trees during this season of rains. Saplings are being planted in parks, schools, the green belt and even the barren lands along the drains.
Speaking to City Spidey, Sumit Maluja, Founder of Sukarman and a resident of Appu Enclave Sector 11 said, “The drive started on Independence Day. Since then without interruption, saplings are being planted every morning in one or two locations. We are feeling upbeat with the increasing participation from people and school children. The rains in the last few days have made us hopeful about the survival of the saplings that we already planted.” Dwarka News
This weekend students from OPG World School and Modern International School shall join in the plantation drive. Maluja states, “We have consistently been active in taking initiatives that will ensure a greener Dwarka and started our campaign by the name of ‘Ecowarriors’ three years earlier. We are looking for passionate people who can spearhead our future activities.”
Incidentally, the people of Dwarka are not just participating in this initiative. They are also adopting the plants. Shiv Kumar Sharma, a resident of Air India Apartments, Sector 3 says, “We are promoting the culture of planting trees. I am doing this activity with my son so that he can feel an attachment with nature and grow up to be an environmentally conscious human being.” Apartment management software
