Vaibhav Khand, I'puram: Don't go strolling after sundown

People living in Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram, say their neighbourhood turns into a hub of criminal activity after dark. Most streetlights in the area are defunct, causing the streets to be engulfed in darkness after sundown. Emboldened by this, criminals prowl the area, stealing and snatching chains from people commuting on these roads.

Residents say the miscreants in the area are confident that their victims will not be able to see their faces in the dark and hence carry out their criminal activities without fear.

Speaking to City Spidey, Jigyasu Pant, a resident of Gaur Green City in Vaibhav Khand, Indirapuram, says the stretch between Mahagun Mansion and Shipra Mall has witnessed several incidents of petty crime of late. “The entire stretch becomes dark in the evening, leaving passers-by vulnerable to attacks from snatchers. Women in the neighbourhood refrain from taking this path after dusk," added Pant.

Mohit Dwivedi from Krishna Apra Garden says residents are helpless, as the miscreants disappear into the night before they can react.

Residents also complain of several incidents where goods and accessories are stolen from cars parked in the area.

City Spidey took up the issue with Rajeev Singh, executive engineer (Electrical Projects) of Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA). Singh said the issue would be sorted out and communicated to the concerned officials. He further urged residents to lodge their complaints on the GDA helpline numbers 9818988807 and 01206450580.
