Renuka Sondhi Gulati – An ecofeminist artist

Legendary Leonardo da Vinci once wrote, "A beautiful body perishes, but a work of art dies not." Art is immortal and lives on from generation to generation. Renuka Sondhi Gulati, a renowned versatile artist, believes in the immortality of art and creates certain masterpieces that can never get archaic. Connoisseur of art, she can do painting, digital arts, Matel installations, and sculptures.

Born in the city of love Agra in 1967, Renuka bloomed in Pathankot, where she learned to follow her passion. She completed her schooling at the St. Joseph Convent School in the foothills of the Shivalik Range. Renuka studied art at Triveni Kala Sangam under the tutelage of Shri Sanjay Roy and Shri Rameshwar Broota. She has also done B.A., B. Ed., M.A., Diploma in Textile Design, and Senior Fellow in Visual Art. Apart from this, she has over 20 years of teaching experience as an art teacher at schools in Haryana and New Delhi.

Renuka has been in the field of art since 2005. Her art has a futuristic vision and the flow in her sculptures, paintings, digital art, and installations merges reality with a mythical dimension.

While talking to Cityspidey, she expressed that nature has always inspired her to experiment with various textures and colours and her zeal to display feminine power that emerged in the woman's form as a protagonist in most of her artwork. Her art links the environment and feminism, and she can be called an ecofeminist.

Her artwork shows her approach to the gender dissertation, specifically the interplay of various organisations that aim to suppress the voice and status of women. Her canvas shows a woman enduring pain and misery while traversing the gap to an unshackled future. Renuka also has experience with metal installations. Her art installations, which depict the uncontrolled energy of nature, beautify various metro stations in Delhi.

Her digital art has attracted national awards from AIFACS. In this diversified art environment, the artist believes in moving with the wind while bringing art to life digitally. The sculptures are finely carved in beautiful forms, neither realistic nor distorted, but possessing an ultimate appeal to the beholder. The medium of sculpture empowers Renuka to play with the ideas of love, family, and togetherness. She has won various awards, including the National Senior Fellow from the Ministry of Culture in 2012–14. She also won the International Best Sculpture Award at the 9th Art Biennale Malta in 2011. She had a contemporary art gallery in Gurugram.
