CM Arvind Kejriwal directs MCD to engage RWAs for maintenance of parks

The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to take up the initiative to refurbish local parks and clean the roads of Delhi. The CM reviewed the MCD's horticulture and sanitation projects to ensure that they are on track and delivering the desired results today.

Chief Minister chaired a high-level meeting to review various MCD projects, on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Delhi PWD Minister Atishi, Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, MCD Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi, MCD Dy Mayor  Aaley Mohd Iqbal, MCD Leader of the House  Mukesh Goyal, MCD Commissioner and other concerned officials.

During the meeting, the CM expressed his concern towards the lack of maintenance of MCD parks. The CM announced that he will personally inspect the MCD's parks across Delhi. He has also instructed the MCD to redevelop all small parks by September 2023 and bigger parks by March 2024.

The CM has further directed the MCD to engage Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) for the maintenance of local parks. He said that the MCD can provide requisite support to the RWAs from its end to ensure they also face no hassles.

In a bid to make tree-pruning a regular and scheduled exercise, the CM has assured the residents that they will not need to call the MCD to come and prune trees. This is a major step towards ensuring that the green cover of Delhi is well-maintained.

To strengthen the sanitation and cleanliness monitoring system, the CM has ordered the implementation of a geo-tagging system for  sanitation workers. The MCD will also start pilot projects in all its zones to assess the impact of geo-tagging. This will include distributing geo-fenced identity wearables to the Safai Karamcharis to monitor their work.

The MCD will also deploy small vehicles to aid in the washing and cleaning of small roads and bylanes across Delhi. Whereas, the Delhi Government will provide it with 250 mechanical road sweeping machines to for cleaning every ward.
