Places to visit around Delhi over long weekends

 The daily humdrums of life: crowd, heat and the long queues of the metro can take a toll on anyone. We drain ourselves at work, and feel uninspired which may impact our health too. Thus, it becomes imperative to maintain a work-life balance.

The central location of Delhi comes as a respite for the city dwellers as short journeys can take them to beautiful locations in the hills, deserts and historical monuments to refresh themselves. One can think of an adventurous trek, a scenic stroll or just a lazy getaway. Here are a few suggestions that can help history lovers, leisure mongers and adventure junkies choose the perfect getaway destination for long weekends:

Nainital

At a distance of merely 310 km from Delhi, Nainital is one of the most pleasant places to visit around Delhi. The temperature is just perfect to sport your light winter jackets, or even ditch it to finally wear that evening dress. The boat ride on the Naini lake, or a walk through Nainital's famous Thandi Sadak, with occasional tea and soup, can definitely give you a breath of fresh air. Another advantage of Nainital is that many small hill stations lie near it, namely Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal, Sattal etc, filled with lakes, temples and museums.

Kasol is a new favourite among Delhi students and youth as it is not very populated. Located at a height of 5,180 feet above sea level, Kasol offers unexplored treks and sites. The most popular ones are Parvati Valley, Tosh and Kheerganga. The place also offers relaxing sulphur hot springs amidst cool temperatures. And the best part, you can enjoy it by taking an overnight bus or cab.

It is a sneak peek into the architectural history and legacy of the Mughal empire with two other UNESCO World Heritage Sites - Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. Neemrana Fort
