Addressing virtually during a global summit, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot shared plans to set up charging stations for electric vehicles at every 3 km distance in the city.
He was talking at a summit organised by the World Bank and WRI Ross Center. Gahlot said the government will encourage the purchase of electric vehicles and have at least 25 per cent EVs of the total registered vehicles in the city by next five years.
“There are plans to set up charging stations every 3 km. We will give purchase incentives to people who want to set up private charging stations,” Gahlot said.
Since the launch of Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy in August 2020, nearly 6,000 electric vehicles have been rolled out in the national capital.
“We have subsidised and incentivised the purchase of electric vehicles so that more and more people get motivated,” he said.
To ensure proper implementation of the plan and addressing any issues which may surface, the government has a dedicated EV cell and a State EV board as a single window.
