Valentine's Specials: You don't need eyes to fall in love

New Delhi: Love is beautiful, love is happiness and also love is blind. Love is also a feeling that you experience for your other partner. But it was not love at first sight for Prashant Verma and Veena Mehta. Prashant Verma and his wife are a visually challenged couple. He is 90 per cent blind while his wife is 100 per cent blind.

“Disability is not a curse, but episode of life which will pass on if you have courage, will power and a right platform,” said Verma.

Verma was not what he is today. Verma was perfectly fine till 12th standard but he lost his 90 per cent eye vision due to a flu in his eyes at the age of 19. Life is very unexpected. You cannot control it, like who can think of something so dangerous if you are perfectly fine till date. But there is always a hope and positivity that is waiting for you only if you are willing to welcome it in your life.

After six years of continuous pain and suffering, Prashant got into care under “National Association For The Blind Delhi,” where he also met his wife Veena Mehta.

He said when he first met his wife, it was really surprising to see the positivity and confidence in her. “I always saw her smiling, fighting for her rights,” he said. He also added that earlier his wife fought for her position in college as there were no special concerns for blind students. She filed cases to make it done and finished her MBA programme.

“All these positive things about Veena made me fall for her, it wasn't love at first sight though, we wanted to settle down first and then decide for the marriage,” said Verma.

They got married in the year 2005 and settled down at Sarita Vihar. When we asked what is love for them they laughed, saying love is not perfection, love is a feeling and care.

Veena is not only a working woman but also a great cook. When we visited their home for the interview, she offered us gajar ka halwa and coffee which she personally cooked in spite of having a helping hand.

Even after the disability they have a lot to offer to the society of disabled people, they spread love and positivity to our society. People say love doesn't exist nowadays, meet Prashant and Veena, you will find love.
