Bird flu was confirmed in Delhi as all the eight samples collected from Mayur Vihar, Sanjay Lake and Dwarka have been tested positive for avian influenza. The tests were carried out at a Bhopal-based laboratory.
Four samples were taken from Mayur Vihar Phase 3, three from Sanjay Lake and one from Dwarka.
Dr Rakesh Singh from the animal husbandry unit of the Development Department confirmed the test results on Monday morning. Now, Delhi has become the ninth state in the country to confirm cases of bird flu.
As the confirmation was done, Delhi has banned import of live birds and the wholesale poultry market was temporarily in Ghazipur.
Sanjay Lake was closed by the authorities as 27 ducks have been found dead over the last three-four days. So far, 91 crows have been found dead across DDA parks at Dwarka, SaritaVihar, Dilshad Garden and Begumpur.
As per the DDA, parks were closed for visitors as a precautionary measure at Hauz Khas, Dwarka Sector 9 and Sanjay Lake.
