Delhi experienced cold wave conditions as minimum temperature dipped to 3.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning. The India Meteorological Department said that a drop in temperature has happened due to icy winds coming from snow-capped mountains in Western Himalayas.
An official from the IMD confirmed it by saying that cold wave conditions were recorded at the Safdarjung Observatory. He said that the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.2 degrees Celsius, which was four notches below normal.
The IMD also said that the cold wave conditions are likely to persist in the national capital for the next two days. Cold wave is declared when the minimum temperature dips to 4 degrees Celsius. A severe cold wave is when the minimum is 2 degrees Celsius or below.
Moreover, the visibility also dropped in Delhi due to heavy fog cover on Wednesday morning. Visibility was restricted to 50 metres at the Palam observatory and to 200 metres at the Safdarjung observatory.
Fog is classified as “very dense” when visibility is between 0 and 50 metres, and “dense” when it is between 51 and 200 metres.
