The air quality continued to be in 'severe' category in many parts of Delhi on Saturday. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 441 in Delhi.
Along with Delhi, the neighbouring cities in the national capital region like Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida also recorded air quality in 'severe' category.
On Friday, the air quality reached the 'severe' category with the Air Quality Index (AQI) touching 461.
The reason for current bad quality of air was calm surface winds in the city and adjoining areas. The wind speed was not allowing dispersal of pollutants in the air.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), minimum temperatures are likely to drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius in northwest India due to dry north/north westerly winds.
Moreover, there is every chance of cold wave and severe cold wave conditions in Delhi. Cold wave is declared by the IMD when the minimum temperature dips to 4 degrees Celsius. A severe cold wave is when the minimum is 2 degrees Celsius or less.
