Responding on the series of complaints by the electricity users in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad against Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limted’s (UPPCL) proposal to hike electricity tariff, the regulatory body – Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) to organise a public hearing on July 26.
Issuing a public notice, the office of Noida Power Corporation Limited (regional office Greater Noida) has invited the consumers to be present and put their grievances before the UPERC team.
The public hearing will be held at Expo Center Noida, A 11, Sector 62 in Noida. It will commence at 11 am. “You are hereby informed that the UPERC is convening a public hearing on annual revenue requirement and tariff for financial year 2019-20. You are kindly invited to attend the same,” NPCL’s advisory read.
CitySpidey had earlier reported that the monthly electricity bills are definitely going to burn a hole in the pockets of residents. Residents of Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad had opposed this proposed hike in power tariff. However, the Uttar Pradesh government has recently approved UPPCL’s proposal.
UPPCL has proposed an increase in the rates of domestic power by more than 25 per cent to Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC).
Against the current tariff of Rs 4.90 per unit for first 150 units, the tariff is proposed to increase by 26 per cent to Rs 6.20 per unit. Similarly, for the slabs of 150-300 units, 300-500 units and 500 and beyond, the increase in tariffs would vary from 12-20 per cent.
Meanwhile, in the commercial segment, 1-15 per cent hike in rates is proposed while rural households will also face the brunt of this spike. Besides, the rate of fixed charge is also proposed to go up by 10 per cent. The fixed charge for urban household will be hiked to Rs 110 per KW from current Rs 100 per KW.
UPPCL has submitted the proposed power tariff structure for 2019-20 with UPERC for vetting and final approval. Now, UPERC would conduct public hearing and later, issue a public notice before taking a call on the proposed tariff order.
