Fed up with the rampant incidents of thefts, especially from parked vehicles in the market areas, the Dwarka police now has started to sensitise the public through advisory boards.
Though such boards are placed in market areas across the sub-city, hundreds of them could be seen near Ashirwad Chowk, Sector 6 and 10.
Rajender Singh, ACP (Dwarka) said in a police-public meeting held recently that such advisories would work in making people more alert and aware of such incidents. He focussed on the subject and appealed to the community to support policing in that way to curb crime in the area.
Incidents of thefts by breaking the glass of the parked cars have been a common 'act' in Dwarka. The market in areas like Sector 6, 7, 10 and 12 have witnessed a maximum number of cases.
Besides, such incidents take place in parking areas of metro stations and victims have been raising the issue in the police-public meetings often. Police have solved several cases, recovering the belongings too but despite all these, such incidents are still occurring.
In order to avoid such incidents in the future, local police are conducting meetings with the residents' welfare associations (RWAs) and market people.
In a meet organised recently at SFS DDA flats (Sector 5), general secretary of the RWA, Mahesh Gupta said, “We discussed several issues related to security and safety but the issue related to thefts from cars in the market areas was emphasised more. The advisory issued by the local police could be helpful if followed. We are making efforts too at our own level to spread the awareness and make people know about the points given by the police about how we could prevent such incidents.”
