Dwarka Debates: Should CCTV cameras be installed using MLA funds?

Dwarka seems to be divided on the issue of installation of CCTV cameras in the societies from the MLA fund, as mandated by the Delhi government.

A few are of the opinion that RWAs and managements are already looking at installation of cameras within society premises, and there’s no need for MLA funds for the same.

Area MLA Matiala Gulab Singh Yadav had posted details of the scheme on various Whatsapp groups of Dwarka and asked the RWAs and managements to send in their requests and requirements through letters, or meet him at his office.

On 6th February, he wrote a post on Dwarka City Solutions to say he would visit societies and other areas in his Assembly with the officials to figure out the places where CCTV cameras were needed. He also said that installation work would be start from next week.

After the post, RWA representatives from several societies started reacting, and said RWAs were already looking into the matter and wasting MLA funds on the same wouldn’t make sense.

General secretary of Federation of Cooperative Group Housing Societies, Dwarka, Sudha Sinha, said, “The announcement by the MLA was nothing but a politically motivated act meant to attract voters. Instead of giving cameras to the societies, they must be installed outside and the police must be involved in the process.”

Sudha further said the promise by the MLA for a fund of Rs 5-15 lakh to societies for development work has not been met yet.

To this, treasurer of Ashirvad Apartments in Sector 12, P Menon, added that he had written to the MLA in the past as well and also followed up the issue for the MLA fund for the society, but there has been no response so far.

Secretary of Rohit CGHS, Sector 10, Monika Mohale, said her team went to MLA office with the letter, but he was not available.

Federation of CGHS has asked the MLA for a meeting with all RWAs in the area to discuss the subject of CCTV cameras from MLA funds and the status of development work in the area.

A representative of the Federation of CGHS, PK Chopra, said, “There are about 350 societies in Dwarka and not even 10 per cent have received the fund. We need a combined meeting to know the status of development work. We have sent our request to the MLA and are waiting for his response.”
