Four school children were injured on Wednesday morning when the private van ferrying them turned turtle in Vasundhara Sector 17.
While three kids suffered minor injuries, one child—a resident of Rishabh Cloud 9 in Indirapuram—sustained major head injury, said the police.
The incident happened at around 8 am. The van was ferrying eight children of Bal Bharati School in Surya Nagar, Ghaziabad, police told.
“The driver of the van was speeding and lost control. While applying brakes on a sharp turn, the van overturned,” said Nazeer Ali Khan, SHO of Indirapuram police station.
The locals informed the police about the incident. Injured children were admitted to Vasundhara Hospital. The police later informed the parents of the children and school management.
While the three children had minor scratches and were taken home by their parents, one of them who suffered serious head injury was later transferred to Fortis Hospital in Noida.
When City Spidey contacted school authorities, they said they have already visited Vasundhara Hospital. However, they denied taking any action against the driver. “The van wasn’t operated by the school and the driver was not on our payroll. It was arranged by a group of parents living in close vicinity,” claimed an official from the school.
However, the school's claim could not be substantiated as the parents did not comment on the matter.
The police hasn’t received any complaint against the driver so far. However, they have taken him into custody for irresponsible driving.
