Why parking is such a chaos across DDA pockets of Dwarka...

Across Dwarka, DDA pockets — about 50 or so — are facing a growing crisis of parking. Most of these societies don’t have designated parking space and residents park their vehicles along footpaths, open spaces and parks.

General secretary of RWA, DDA SFS Flats in Sector 5, Mahesh Gupta, said, “When they allotted the flats, they provided space enough for a scooter, as per the scheme of MIG flats. But now, people who booked MIG flats can afford cars. Under such a situation, the open spaces on the premises began to be used as parking areas.”

Delhi Development Authority has made HIG, MIG, LIG and Janta flats across Dwarka.

According to officials, there’s car parking space in many pockets. Also, several multi-storied societies of DDA like Smariddhi Apartments, Golf Link Apartments, there are underground parking areas. In HIG and MIG flats, a few parking spaces are left unused and have been given out by owners on rent.

Now, the RWAs have also started using vacant areas outside their societies for parking.

SK Singh, a resident of Sector 14, Kautilya Apartments, said, “There’s rampant encroachment in flats and the open spaces are being converted into covered areas. This has also led to a shrinkage in parking spaces, and nobody — neither the SDMC or nor the DDA — cares.”
