A 28-year-old woman, working with a private insurance company, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her flat in Hardik Tower, a high rise in Sector 53, Noida.
Police was informed about the incident by the woman’s friend, Rahul, who said he had been calling her since Monday morning, but did not receive any response.
The victim identified as Surbhi and hails from Jharkhand.
"The woman had apparently been forced to resign after her company had initiated multiple inquiries against her for allegedly failing to renew insurance policies of clients despite taking premiums," police said.
"Her friend, Rahul, had been transferred to another branch of the company. They were planning to get married, but her family was not okay with the decision, as the boy earned less and belonged to a different caste. However, the family had agreed after the couple persisted,” said Pankaj Pant, SHO of Sector 24 police station.
Surbhi, he continued, was facing pressure due to loss of job and the debts she had taken from Rahul and others.
The couple had an argument on Sunday after which both went their ways. The next day however, the girl could not be contacted.
The police has detained Rahul, who made the initial PCR call.
