Samridhi Apt, Dwarka: Overhead tank seepage causes lifts to malfunction

Seepage from overhead water tanks has made life difficult for residents of Samridhi Apartments in Sector 18B, Dwarka. Water has collected in the lift operating room, and two lifts have already stopped working.

The seepage has reached the ground floor through the pillars, causing heavy damage to the walls and the pillars — weakening the base structure.

The seepage has been there for about six months, and it has worsened in the last one month. President of RWA, Dr Darshna Rani, said, “Seepage in Tower F1B is so serious that the overhead tank can collapse anytime. This has also rendered two lifts un-operational, causing great difficulties to the people.”

City Spidey visited the society and found water dripping on the motor in the lift operating room — it has reached the basement parking as well.

There are 15 towers in all, with more than 400 flats. Each tower has two overhead water tanks, with a capacity 20,000 litre.

Rahul Wahi, a resident on the 9th floor, said, “The situation is alarming this time. Imagine our difficulties without a lift on the 9th floor.”

The RWA has written several times to the DDA but to no avail.

“The DDA does not seem to be serious about our problem — it’s their job to maintain our overhead tanks. Residents are facing a lot of trouble because of this mess. Until the seepage problem is resolved, lifts would continue to malfunction,” complained vice-president of the society, Asha Kochar.
