The residents of Assotech Windsor Court in Noida’s Sector 78 are battling outage for the last one week after the electricity department cut power supply of their society for non-payment of dues worth Rs 22 lakh. Their only respite is power back-up which is also running erratically.
According to the residents, the power supply was stopped on November 29. “Even the lifts aren’t working throughout the day because the back up can run only for a few hours. Every tower has 13 floors and residents have been mostly using stairs to reach their flats," said a resident. Noida News
“Even, the water supply has been affected. We have been using bottled water for daily use because the tanks have run out of water. The worst affected are senior citizens who have stopped getting out of their flats for the fear of taking stairs. But this is not the first time that electricity department has cut the electricity line to our society," said Manoj, a resident.
According to an official of Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), a subsidiary company of UPPCL, the builder needs to pay Rs 22 lakh for the last six months’ bills. “We will restore power supply once the builder makes the payment. Otherwise, the situation will continue,” official said.
The residents say they are planning to stage a protest against the builder as they have been clearing their dues regularly. “We have been regularly paying the electricity bill to the builder and it's their fault that they haven’t paid the electricity department. The residents are unnecessarily stuck between the builder and electricity department,” said another resident.
