With Diwali just a day away, the markets in Dwarka are chock-a-block with frantic shoppers. As always, this year too, dry fruits are in demand as gifting options. In the knick-knacks section, bandarmala, designer candles and thalis are doing good.
According to shopkeepers, due to rise in prices, big, costly items are not making good business.
Radhe Shyam, a shopkeeper, said, “This year readymade rangoli and artificial flowers are in demand. While flowers come for Rs 20-800, readymade rangolis cost Rs 50-70.”
Another shopkeeper informed decorated thalis too, between Rs 250-1,500, have been selling well this year. Laxmi-Ganesh statues in white-and-pink marble, hanging diyas, floating candles, designer candles are also being lapped up.
MK Singh, who sells candles, said, “Last year, gel candles and Chinese candles were in demand, but this year, people are demanding handmade Indian candles and traditional mati diyas.”
Colourful lamps are also being sold, with price ranging from Rs 100-2,000. Wooden heart-shaped baskets for holding puja items are available for Rs 150- 200.
