To control the menacing pollution, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has started water sprinkling in Dwarka. Water was also sprinkled on trees to clean the dust from its leaves.
According to the sanitary officials of SDMC, the water sprinkling would be carried till November 15 and can be extended beyond that as well depending on the situation.
City Spidey raised the issue of dust pollution in the area several times in the past couple of weeks. On the subject, the Leader of the House SDMC, Kamaljeet Sehrawat had assured to carry out sprinkling in the area.
The schedule and areas for sprinkling of water were shared by the sanitation department on the WhatsApp groups of the residents in each of the wards so that they could share the location and progress of the work. They are also sharing name of the places where the sprinkling is needed.
An official said that they are trying to cover as much area as possible every day. He also informed that additional tankers and sprinklers have been added to the fleet for the Ward B area.
Leader of the House, SDMC and Councillor of Dwarka B Ward, Kamaljeet Sehrawat told City Spidey, “We have started the work and it would be more effective with addition of more tankers and sprinklers from tomorrow. From tomorrow, ten tankers will be doing the job. I want to appeal the community to suggest us ways to make it more effective.”
Residents of the area welcomed the action taken by SDMC. They suggested that the watering and sprinkling must be done in entire Dwarka every day.
VK Singh, a resident of Sector 6 said, “The air quality has improved with the change in the wind speed. Water sprinkling is also helping it. I think sprinkling should be done twice or thrice in a day so that dust settles down completely.”
