To address the contagious issue of drainage cleaning in Indirapuram area, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has asked the housing societies and shopkeepers to destroy the ramps which they have built over the drain.
The GDA has also warned the housing societies and shopkeepers to comply with the order else there will be police case against them.
Anil Kumar Singh, Executive Engineer of engineering wing of GDA, told City Spidey that GDA had ordered housing societies and roadside shopkeepers to deconstruct their ramps at the earliest. “We will register an FIR against them if they don’t follow our instructions,” Singh said.
GDA Vice Chairperson, Kanchan Verma had surveyed the Indirapuram area on Friday and expressed her displeasure after witnessing the pervasive built up of ramps by the housing societies, market complexes and independent shop owners over the drains.
According to sources, she also pulled up the GDA officials of the area for allowing this.
VC surveyed many areas of Indirapuram but was disappointed with the encroachment over drains on Kala Patthar Road and CISF Road.
The President of Federation of Apartments Owners Association, Alok Kumar feels that housings societies and shopkeepers should think for the community.
“Without proper sewer function, our infrastructures will collapse. Housing societies and shopkeepers must remove ramps before their establishments to let the authority clean the drains and sewers. It will help us only. Besides, it’s illegal as well,” he said.
The whole Indirapuram was flooded during heavy rains this monsoon. One of the major causes was the poor upkeep of drains and sewers. The frequent built up of ramps over the drains had been a significant hindrance for the authority in cleaning the drains.
Many times, the authority tried to remove the ramps but they were not able to do so amid the protests and standoff from the establishment owners.
