In order to ensure a safe Diwali, the resident welfare associations (RWAs), NGOs, police and electricity departments in Dwarka are busy making all requisite arrangements to let people enjoy the festival without any hassles.
RWAs are organising police-public meet to make people aware about the Supreme Court’s order allowing bursting of only green crackers during a set time limit. NGOs, on the other hand, are holding events in parks and market places to make people aware about the high-levels of pollution in the city right now and how to celebrate green Diwali.
The several Diwali Melas organised in the sub city are all themed around the concept of green Diwali. One of the biggest volunteers to spread the noble message have been schoolchildren, who along with NGOs, are organising campaigns in parks, market areas and even on the streets themed on green Diwali.
Choti Si Khushi, an NGO, had recently organised a street play at Sector 3/4 park with a theme “Say no to crackers.” Green Circle, another NGO, organised an awareness programme on the same topic in Brahma Apartments in Sector 7.
Meanwhile, the administration has increased police presence at crowded areas such as the main markets. To reduce the chaos, parking on the market premises has been stopped for a while and alternate parking venues have been declared.
The electricity department of DDA, municipal corporation and BSES are making all the efforts to ensure that street lighting in the sub city is up to the mark. “We are taking prompt action on complaints. Feeder boxes are being repaired and maintenance work in Sectors 13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 11, 12, 10, 5, 6, 2 and 3 has been completed,” said a BSES official.
The police personnel are keeping an eye on any illegal sale of crackers in key areas including Sector 6 central market, Sector 10 market, Ramphal Chowk Market and Aashirvad Chowk.
