Gzb traffic police forms 15 quick response teams to resolve traffic woes

The residents of Indirapuram, Rajnagar Extension and Crossings Republik can expect some relief from traffic woes in the coming days as Ghaziabad Traffic Police has decided to form 15 quick response teams (QRT) to handle traffic congestion. Indirapuram News

Out of these, 10 teams would be deployed in urban Ghaziabad while five teams will work in the rural areas. The residents of the high-rise will benefit from six such teams.

In Indirapuram, QRTs would be deployed at UP Gate, Mohan Nagar to Vasundhara road, CISF cut and Chhajarsi to Rahul Vihar road.

In Rajnagar Extension, QRTs would be deployed at VVIP mall and RK Goel Institute of Information and Technology whereas in Crossings Republik, the teams will work at ABES cut and Dundahera village.

SP traffic Shyam Narayan Singh said that the move aims to streamline the growing traffic on the road. “The ever increasing number of vehicles on the road is leading to heavy traffic jams in the city. A step like this was needed to control the situation. The QRTs will aim to implement traffic rules efficiently,” he said.

Giving details of the initiative, Singh said that the teams will be called ‘fighter’ and will comprise five to six police personnel including hawaldar, home guards and will be headed by a traffic sub inspector (TSI). The teams will operate out of four-wheelers.

He also said that QRTs would exchange spots every two to three hours. The teams would be reshuffled in every 15 days, and TSIs will be rostered. Ghaziabad traffic police currently has 36 TSIs.

Meanwhile, president of Federation of Apartment Owners Association (FedAOA) of Ghaziabad Alok Kumar welcomed the initiative. “We have been for long complaining to the administration about the worsening traffic situation near high-rises. Something like this will definitely help ease the traffic,” he said.

Acting upon Central Road Research Institute (CRRI)’s traffic mobility plan for Indirapuram, the Ghaziabad Development Authority had closed 33 exits on various internal and arterial roads surrounding the locality in September. However, the closures have increased the traffic problem in the area.

Gajendra Arya, president of FedAOA of Raj Nagar Extension wasn’t pleased with the spot chosen to deploy QRT in the area. “Traffic has already become smooth here after the closure of cut in front of VVIP. The QRT instead should have been deployed at Ajnara Integrity and KW Srishti cut,” he said.

Traffic mostly accumulates near Ajnara Integrity and KW Srishti cut as more than 25 societies are located in the area along with Aura Chimera market, the biggest market complex of the locality, added Arya.

Meanwhile, president of Crossings Republik Owners and Members Association (CROMA) Tarun Chauhan said that the move would ease the traffic as the ongoing construction work on NH-24 is forcing Greater Noida commuters to take Crossings-Shahberi road leading to huge jams during peak hours. “It is a single-lane road that adds to the traffic woes,” he added.
