Vijayadashami or Dussehra, as popularly known, was celebrated with full fervour and enthusiasm by the residents in and across the city of Gurugram. The concluding day was celebrated with utmost joy and fervour at the premises of Club5 by the residents of DLF5 on Friday.
The vibrant community of DLF5 saw an energetic day amid the traditions and delicacies as around 4000 residents came together bid farewell to the grand idol of Maa Durga, the metaphor of ‘women power’ and to mark triumph of good over evil. Gurugram News
The day of Vijayadashami holds immense significance for married women too, who celebrate the occasion with ‘Sindoor Khela’. All the women participating in it, applied sindoor or vermillion on Maa Durga’s forehead and feet and thereafter applied it on other married women present around them.
Besides, to relive the legends of the great epic Ramayana, the artists of Charkula Arts Academy presented Ramlila. It recounted the story of Lord Rama since his birth till his reunion with his wife Sita after his victory over the evil king of Lanka, Ravana.
Charkula Arts Academy was established in 1982 to promote dance, music and culture of Uttar Pradesh in India. The academy has established a branch in Singapore to promote Folk Art and Culture outside India.
Post Ramlila, DLF Phase II residents enjoyed the delicious food and Ravan Dehan. They had called artists from Uttar Pradesh who had prepared effigies. The celebration went until 11 pm where more than 8000 people had gathered to witness Ravana going up in flames.
Environ, the facilities management wing of Vatika also organized Dussehra Utsav in Vatika India Next (Sector 82) and Vatika City (Sector 49). Residents of Fresco Apartment (Sector 50) had already organised the program where the children of the society and residents played garba and installed food stalls after the garba night.
“We have completed ten successful years and each year, we try to bring something new,” Vinod Tayal, vice president said.
