It’s nearing a month since sanitation workers of EDMC started their strike, but no solution seems close at hand. Desperate and left without hope, the RWAs of East Delhi have started a unique campaign ‘Selfie with Garbage’ on social media to draw attention to the issue. Residents will takes selfies with garbage in the background and share it with both the municipal corporation and the Delhi government.
Not only selfies, there’ll be videos too.
BS Vohra, president of East Delhi RWA Joint Front, who initiated this campaign, said, “We’ll show the real face of the city. We are showing our administrators (both Delhi government and MCD) what they had promised and what they have delivered.”
Owing to the strike that started on September 11, roads in residential colonies are piling up with garbage. Areas like Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Krishna Nagar, Pandav Nagar and Mayur Vihar are among the badly affected areas.
Talking to City Spidey, Dev Prakash Singh, a resident of Mayur Vihar Phase I (pocket 4), said, “Dhalaos are being cleaned once in every three-four days. Roads in the colonies are filled with waste for the last one month.”
Residents had hoped that sanitation workers would resume work, and the problem would have been resolved within a week. But the protests have continued for nearly a month now — and things are clearly getting out of hand.
