Chain snatching incidents on the rise in Sector 51, Noida

The rising number of chain snatching incidents during the festive season in Sector 51, Noida, has left the residents of the area a worried lot. The RWAs of the sector have now approached the SSP of the district to increase police patrolling of the area. Noida News

Several incidents of chain snatching have been reported near the sector which have left the residents in the state of fear, said a RWA member.

“A chain snatching incident was recently reported in F-block of Sector 51 in Noida at around 10.10 am near F 62. A man, identified as Parveen Yadav of Sorkha Village, was coming from VDS market side on scooty and going to his house through Sector-51. He was intercepted by two bike-borne snatchers,” said Sanjeev Kumar, secretary of RWA.

“The victim lost his control and fell from his scooty. The victim said that the attackers snatched his chain on gunpoint and even fired in air and ran away,” he added.

“The victim immediately called police who reached within 10-15 minutes. Police had even checked cctv footage of F62 but its range did not cover the incident," Kumar said.

Meanwhile, the RWA of the area complained that sector-51 has been completely neglected by Noida police. “Despite our repeated requests, there is hardly any patrolling in the sector. The residents feel highly unsafe. Over the past two to three months, there have been thefts of many vehicles including a Fortuner on September 8 from E-80 of the sector. FIRs have been filed in all these cases but there is no relief," RWA said.

The angry and disappointed RWAs have now requested the SSP Noida and SP city and other police authorities to take note of their complaints and start police patrolling in the sector.
