Speaking to City Spidey, District Malaria Officer Rajesh Sharma said more than a hundred of samples have been tested so far this year at the sentinel laboratory in Noida. “According to the guidelines issued by the central health ministry, only the samples taken from patients with symptoms such as high fever, sore throat, chest pain, breathing difficulty, drowsiness, low blood pressure, blood in sputum and blue nails are to be tested for the H1N1 virus and dengue,” said Sharma.
There are four prevalent dengue virus strains: DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4. Of these, DEN-1 and DEN-3 are considered less severe.
According to an official at health department, fogging is being regularly conducted in the city with the help of the Noida Authority utilising their machines. These drives are being done on a daily basis.
To avert the spread of mosquito-borne disease, the health department has so far conducted an inspection of more than 300 houses, private hospitals, residential sectors, societies and industrial sectors.
The health department officials emphasise that the residents should ensure that the breeding places of mosquito inside their houses and vicinity are destroyed. Aedes mosquito, vector responsible for the spread of dengue, breeds in stagnant water lying in water coolers, air conditioners, pots, ornamental plants, fountains, water tanks and bird feeders.
However, the residents of Noida are not happy with the quantum of fogging drives. They feel that the Noida Authority has not taken sufficient steps to prevent mosquito breeding at open drains, potholes and low-lying areas. They claim that some areas have not even had a single fogging drive this season.
