PHOTO KATHA: Janmashtami highlights from Delhi-NCR

Janmashtami, the festival that marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, was celebrated with much fervour and enthusiasm across Dwarka, Indirapuram and Noida yesterday.

Thousands of devotees thronged the two main temples in Dwarka—Golakdham Temple in Sector 10 and ISKCON Temple in Sector 13—since early morning. The temples were beautifully decked up with the quintessential floral decorations and mesmerising illuminations.

Several cultural programmes were organised at the ISKCON depicting Krishna leela. The park adjacent to the temple also hosted a ‘Krishnotsav’ with arrangements of rides and swings for the kids.

At Golakdham, about 75 children from various societies performed on stage in various cultural programmes like dance, drama, singing and fancy dress competition. “More than 20,000 people visited the temple this year. The main attraction was the jhanki made by children,” said Sanjay Goel of the temple management committee.

Fancy dress competitions, where children dressed up as Lord Krishna, Radha and Meera, were the highlights of the festivities in the residential societies. At Heritage Tower Apartments in Sector 3, Dwarka, children enacted a drama based on the childhood events of Lord Krishna. At Lovely Home Apartments in Sector 5, Dwarka, the women group organised bhajan and kirtan in the mandir premises till the midnight.

Meanwhile, the residents of Indirapuram and Noida also celebrated the festival with much religious fervour. The AOA of Saya Zenith, Indirapuram, organised jhankis, dance performances, bhajan and matki phod ritual on the premises.
