Noida: 2 societies served notices for not using sewage treatment plant

The Jal Department of Noida Authority has issued notices to Prateek Wisteria and Civitech Sampriti in Sector 77, Noida, for not using Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to treat sewage water and instead throwing the untreated sewage water in roadside drains.
The Noida Authority has also warned the two builders to stop throwing out the untreated sewage water otherwise a tough action would be taken against them.

Speaking to City Spidey, MP Pandey, project engineer of Noida Authority, said that both these societies have taken a sewer connection but they are still not treating the sewage water through the STP on a regular basis.

“We had conducted an inspection at these two societies and found irregularities by the builder. A notice has been issued to the two according to the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Act, 1976, which states that the sewage water must be treated through the STP,” added Pandey.

He further said that both the societies have been given 15 days’ time to follow the Act, else strict action will be taken against the builder and a hefty penalty will be imposed on the developers. “We will also send this complaint to the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board.”

Meanwhile, the residents agreed with the charges of the authority. Amit Gupta, a resident of Prateek Wisteria, said that their builder has been pumping out untreated sewer water into the drain that is meant for rainwater harvesting. “The Noida Authority has connected the society’s STP into their STP in Sector 50. So, there is no reason why the builder should pump out untreated sewer water into the roadside drain,” said Gupta.

According to another resident of Civitech Sampriti, it is not the first time that the builder has been served a notice.

On August 7 this year, the authority had issued first notice to the builder but nothing was done. The builder has not been using the STP to treat sewer water on a daily basis because the plant hasn’t been installed properly. The STP is not fitted and maintained properly.

However, SK Mittal, Vice President of Prateek Group, said that the STP installed in the society is working properly and they have been using it to treat the waste water on a daily basis.

City Spidey contacted the estate manager of Prateek Wisteria, Nandlal Sharma, but he was not available to comment.
